Merle Wolff

Merle Irene (Bonwell) Wolff, age 87, died Saturday December 3, 2011, at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital, Charles City, Iowa, with her children at her bedside. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 6, 2011, at St. John Lutheran Church, Nashua with Rev. Thomas Hagen officiating. Chris Cleveland will be the organist, accompanying the congregation singing, “Rock Of Ages”, “How Great Thou Art” and “Good Christian Friends Rejoice”. Interment will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens, rural Charles City. Friends may greet the family 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. Tuesday before the service at the church. Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home in Nashua is in charge of arrangements. She was the last of five children born to Van and Lena (Jones) Bonwell. On January 26, 1946, she married Albert Wolff. To this union three children were born; David Leroy, Linda Sue, and James Allen. In 1972, David was tragically killed in a motorcycle accident. Merle was a member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church Circle, the VFW Auxiliary, and was a past 4-H leader. She was also an enthusiastic member of the Carrville Club. She devoted her life to helping family and friends. In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening, fishing, cooking, and playing cards. At the age of 51, she attended Real Estate School and became a licensed agent. At other times in her life, she worked as a telephone operator, donut maker, and as an aide in a nursing home. Merle is survived by her son, Jim (Lora) Wolff of Keokuk; her daughter, Linda Wolff of Cedar Falls; a grandson, Brandon Wolff of Norfolk, Virginia; one sister, Gail Cleveland of Chester, Iowa; two sisters-in-law, Martha Crooks of Nashua and Alice Wolff of Charles City; many nephews, nieces and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Albert; son, David; and three brothers, Wayne, Keith, and Kenneth Bonwell.
