Merle Ruth Bennett age 93 of Nashua died Saturday, September 24, 2016, at the Cedar Vale Assisted Living in Nashua.
A private family burial will take place at a later date.
Merle Ruth Bennett was born July 29, 1923 in Nashua, IA. The daughter of Harry and Nellie (Wright) Swinton. She attended Grant Country School before going to Nashua High School. After high school she went to Gates College to study secretarial work.
Her first job out of college was working for the State of Alabama while she lived in Montgomery, AL. After four years there she came back to work for Oliver Tractor and later White Farms. Merle retired in 1983 from White Farms. She married Dean Doyle in 1946. To this union three children were born. The couple later divorced. On May 5, 1972 she was united in marriage to Richard Bennett II in Mason City, IA.
The couple had met when Merle caught Richards eye and Richard asked her out for a cup of coffee. The couple lived life to the fullest. Going on many different trips around the United States and spending many winters in Florida and Arizona. Other than traveling, Merle enjoyed making quilts, crocheting, dancing and playing cards. Merle’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren meant the world to her. Her face would always light up when they walked in the room. She was a member of the Little Brown Church and the Oliver Management Club.
Merle is survived by her husband, Richard Bennett of Nashua, IA; two sons, Larry (Jan) Doyle of Brook Park, MN, Lynn Doyle of Cedar Falls, IA; two daughters, Lorene Hirsch of Nashua, IA, Connie (Ted) Halter of Sun City, CA; one brother Charles (Rita) Swinton of Nashua, IA; seven grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; one son-in-law Don Hirsch of Nashua, IA.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Hattie Dietz, Mary Dietz, Irene O’Brien; brothers Art Swinton, Clyde Swinton, Bob Swinton, Fred Swinton; sons Richard III and Tim Bennett.

Such a nice lady and so talented. I will always remember the cute clowns that she used to make. Each one had their own personality!! I will hold close to the Irish clowns that she made for me and cherish the memories of the wonderful lady that madr them. She will be missed by many!! My love and prayers are with her family.

I got to know merle and dick from working g at cedar vale. She was an absolutely lovely lady she would tell everyone het stories and always made u smile. It was so cute 2 see these to together. It was funny to see merle try to be bossy to dick sometime and tell him he was crazy n she new best n dick would just chuckle. Another great memory i.wont forget about a month ago she got to meet our new baby girl and she was so tickle pink n happy she loves babies and got 2 hold her and she was very happy she asked dick if she could keep her :)is was the cutest thing I ever saw. I will never forget merle she was the best and so glad I got to know her and meet and her.

I got to know Dick & Merle working at Cedar Vale. They were the cutest couple I had ever known. I loved hearing stories about their life together and all they did. She will be so so missed and I will forever cherish getting to know her. Prayers for your families!
