Maurice (Maury) Edward Peters was born to Clarence and Margaret (Ball) Peters in New Hampton, Iowa on October 5, 1933. Maurice married Maria Louisa Alvarez on February 23, 1973, in Chula Vista, California. After retiring from the US Navy, Maury and Maria returned to Chula Vista and purchased their home, staying close to their children and their families. Maury grew up in New Hampton during the post-depression years which shaped his character and spawned his powerful work ethic. He graduated from New Hampton High School in 1951. After a brief employment at Rath Packing in Waterloo, Iowa, he and his brother, Robert, enlisted in the US Navy in 1952. Maurice started his naval career as a ship fitter and attained the highest enlisted rank in his field as a Hull Technician Master Chief Petty Officer. He retired from the Navy after 24 years of service in 1978 and continued working at the Long Beach Naval Ship Yard as a project foreman until 1990. His family held him in high regard and saw him as a hard worker and a very giving and caring human being. He was an extremely loyal family person. His passions were his family, his rose bushes, and his fruit trees, to which he devoted much care and love. He will be greatly missed by all! He is survived by his wife, Maria; four step-children, Cesar, Linda, Tom, and Dolores; seven grandchildren, Clyde, Eric, Rich, Inga, Michael, Rocky, and Melina; nine great grandchildren, Kayla, Alysa, Savannah, Alixis, Madison, Cassidy, Megan, Zachary, and Michael; and his brother Larry (Chris) Peters. Maury was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Margaret; and his siblings, Robert, Rose Ann, and Vern.

Guestbook

  1. Our thoughts and prayers go out to family members and friends. Today I was listening to the song ‘I’ve found my way back home’ and I was thinking of Pops and will always think of him when I hear it. He is on his way back home to Iowa and to be with our Lord and Savior. We have been blessed to have known Pops and to have had him in our lives. Thanks for the memories Pops, God bless. Love -Tom (Tito),Susan, Grandson Michael

  2. Maria, Linda, Delores and Ceasar: I’m happy that Maury was a part of your life along with all the grandkids. Maury was very happy and proud showing off his grandkids. Maury reminded me a lot of my Grandpa Peters growing up. We will miss Maury a lot with his dry sense of humor. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and the family. Love, Greta and Suzan

  3. Dear Dad, you were the best thing that happened to our family! We love you so much and will remember you always. I hope that you are with your mom, dad and siblings who preceded you. Free of pain at last. Love you lots Pops.
