Matthew Smith

Matthew Nels Smith, age 6 weeks, died February 28th at his home in New Hampton. Funeral services will be held 4:00 p.m. Monday, March 4, 2013, at Redeemer Lutheran Church, New Hampton, IA, with his uncle, Pastor Peter Faugstad presiding. Interment will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 6, 2013, at the Scarville Synod Lutheran Cemetery, Scarville, IA. Friends may greet the family 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Sunday, March 3, 2013, at the Hugeback-Johnson Funeral Home in New Hampton. Matthew Nels Smith was born January 15, 2013, in New Hampton to Rev. Glenn and Maria Smith. He was baptized on January 17th. On January 30th he became critically ill and was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect. The final weeks of his life were spent at home in hospice care, surrounded by loving family and friends. He is now in his eternal home with his Savior. He is survived by his parents, Pastor Glenn and Maria Smith of New Hampton; his siblings, Gabriel, Philip, Micah, Isaac, and Grace; his grandparents, Robert and Janice Smith of Healdsburg, CA, and Jim and Emily Faugstad of Emmons, MN; and numerous uncles, aunts and cousins.
