Mary DeSloover age 85 of New Hampton, formerly of Waucoma died Sunday, May 8, 2011, at the New Hampton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday May 12, 2011, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, Lawler with Rev. Nick March and Deacon Vic DeSloover celebrating the Mass. The pall will be placed by Mary’s five daughters. Offertory gifts will be presented by granddaughters Kate Kramer, Lisa Otters, Alicia Ridpath, Tonja Hricik, and Vanessa DeSloover. Lectors will be Michelle Foth and Ashley Schrock. Music for the service will be provided by Ann Bennett, organist and Nichole Hageman, pianist accompanying Lynette Weeler, vocalist.
Interment will be in Mt. Carmel Catholic Cemetery, Lawler with grandchildren Michael DeSloover, Eric Whitaker, Brian DeSloover, Joshua Bond, Matthew Bond, Christopher Ridpath, Thomas DeSloover Jr., Scott Binning, Andrew Bond, and Shelby Goldston serving as pallbearers.
Friends may greet the family 3:00 - 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home, New Hampton where there will be a 4:00 p.m. rosary and a 7:00 p.m. scripture service. Visitation will continue an hour prior to Mass at the church on Thursday.
Mary Margaret DeSloover was born March 20, 1926 in Waucoma, IA, the daughter of William and Bertha (Drilling) Myers. She graduated from Waucoma High School. On February 19, 1946, Mary was united in marriage to Bernard DeSloover at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Waucoma. To this union, thirteen children were born. The couple farmed in the Waucoma area from 1946 until their retirement.
Mary enjoyed gardening, sewing, and quilting. She was a member of the Mt. Carmel Rosary and Altar Society, and the Lawler American Legion Auxiliary.
Survivors include seven sons; Tom (Nancy) DeSloover of Aurora, CO, Vic (Nancy) DeSloover of Fredericksburg, Alan (Sheri) DeSloover of Swisher, IA, Dennis DeSloover of Webster, TX, Bob (Dorothy) DeSloover of Hampton, IA, Roger DeSloover of Waucoma, Paul (Sandy) DeSloover of Lawler; five daughters, Gail (Duane) Whitaker of Portage, IN, Colleen (Lester) Briggs of Algona, Colette Keller of New Hampton, Marlene Bond of Marquette, IA, and Nancy Goldston of Wichita, KS; 31 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; seven sisters, Esther Myers of Newport Richey, FL, Dorothy Cotant of Dubuque, Sr. Delores Myers of San Mateo, CA, Marilyn (Carl) Hoffmann of Bellevue, IA, Magdalen Wieling of New Hampton, Elaine (George) Hill of Peru, IL, Frances (Paul) Kress of Dubuque; two sisters in law, Marlene Myers of Marion, IA, Alice Myers of Waucoma; a brother in law, Tony Sieverding of LaMotte, IA; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Bernard on May 29, 2007; an infant son, Bernard in 1947; a granddaughter, April DeSloover; two brothers, Albert and Leonard Myers; and one sister, Betty Sieverding.
