Mary C. Stepan age 77 of Nashua died Thursday, September 6, 2012, at the 9th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City. Memorial services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 11, 2012, at the United Methodist Church, Nashua with Pastor Okitakoyi Lundula presiding. Private family interment will take place at a later date. Friends may greet the family 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Monday, September 10, 2012, at the Hugeback-Johnson Funeral Home in Nashua. Visitation continues an hour prior to the service at the church. Mary Catherine Stepan was born August 19, 1935, in rural Winneshiek County, IA, the daughter of Clifford and Margaret (Casey) Keune. She received her education in rural country school near Decorah. She married Mandel Johnson and to this union two daughters were born. The couple later divorced. On June 29, 1965, in New Hampton she married Theophilus “T.J.” Stepan. The couple initially lived in Lawler and later moved to the Nashua area. Mary could often be seen working in her garden in which she loved spending her free time. She also enjoyed wood-working, crafts and knitting lap blankets that she donated to area nursing homes. Survivors include her husband, T.J. of Nashua; two daughters, Della Johnson of Nashua, Valorie Johnson-Eggman of Fon du Lac, WI; one sister-in-law, Glenda Keune of Chester, MT. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Irene Keune and Mary Margaret Keune; three brothers, Kenneth Keune, Roger “Bud” Keune, Charles “Chuck” Keune.
