Mary Johnson

Mary C. Johnson, age 81 of New Hampton, Iowa died Wednesday January 21, 2009, at Mercy Medical Center in New Hampton.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday at Holy Family Parish - St. Joseph Center in New Hampton. The pall will be placed by her three children. Lector for the service will be Marty Blocker. Ann Bennett will be the organist accompanying Joyce Shatek as cantor.
Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, New Hampton with Bill O’Connell, Joe O’Connell, Frank O’Connell, Les Johnson, Pat Wilson and Dave Wilson as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Larry Johnson, Steve Johnson, Terry Johnson, Jeramy Blocker, Cody Blocker, Tamara Johnson and Kyle Johnson.
Friends may call 2 - 5 p.m. Sunday at the Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home in New Hampton. Further visitation will be one hour prior to the service at church on Monday.
Mary was born January 5, 1928, in Delaware County near Manchester, Iowa the daughter of Timothy and Kathryn (Sheilds) O’Connell. On January 5, 1949, in Manchester, Iowa, Mary was united in marriage to Harry F. Johnson. To this union four children were born. Initially the couple lived in Manchester and then Waterloo, before moving to New Hampton in 1969. Mary worked at Sara Lee for 20 years, retiring in the early 1990’s. She loved crafts, going to casinos, garages sales and spending time with her family. Christmas was an especially important time of year to Mary, who loved buying presents for her children and grandchildren.
Mary is survived by her two sons, Tim (Sandy) Johnson and Dan (Val) Johnson all of New Hampton; one daughter, Donna (Marty) Blocker of Cody, NE; seven grandchildren, Larry Johnson, Steve Johnson, Terry Johnson, Jeramy Blocker, Cody (Brooke) Blocker, Tamara Johnson and Kyle Johnson; eight great-grandchildren.; one brother-in-law, Dick Wilson of Anamosa, IA; two sisters-in-law, Margaret O’Connell of Delhi, IA and Ilene O’Connell of Earlville, IA
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harry F. Johnson on December 22, 1982; one son, Joseph Johnson; four brothers, Timothy, Joe, Frank and Tom; her best friend, Virginia Wilson; most of her brothers-in-laws and sisters-in-laws.
We enjoyed working with Mary all those years at Sara Lee. She was a very nice and special person. We were all like one big happy family there. May happy memories carry you through this sorrowful time.Out sympathy to the families of Mary our prayers are with you.

Tim, Donna, Dan, and family, I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I know that your hearts are broken, and I can’t say anything to help your pain.
