Mary Ann Dawson age 87 of Fredericksburg, IA died Saturday, September 22, 2018 at the Patty Elwood Center in Cresco. Funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 26, 2018 at Hillcrest Baptist & Brethren Church in Fredericksburg with Rev. Todd Yeaton presiding. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Fredericksburg with Denny Riley, Chris Garden, Jamie Buhr, Jeremy Buhr, Blair Dawson and Grant Dawson serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Mehman and Joshua Buhr. Friends may greet the family from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 25, 2018 at Hugeback-Johnson Funeral Home & Crematory in Fredericksburg. Visitation continues an hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the church. Mary Ann Dawson was born August 8, 1931 in Nashua, IA, the daughter of Leonard and Amanda (Nordman) Bean. She attended school in Nashua and went to Nashua High School. She met the love of her life at a dance, Henry Dawson. The couple took off and got married right away. They were married on December 20, 1947 in Austin, MN. It was a perfect example of love at first sight. To this union two children were born. After getting married the couple moved to Fredericksburg where they lived their entire life. Mary Ann was first a waitress at the café in Fredericksburg before opening up Dawson’s Clothing which she owned and managed. She later went to work for AMPI Creamery where she was the office manager for 28 years, retiring in 1993. Family was everything to Mary Ann. She always loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will always be remembered as a devoted and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Mary Ann and her husband Henry loved to go dancing. Her kids remember them getting all dressed up together and going to different dances in the area. The couple spent most of their weekends at the Mississippi River either at Harpers Ferry or in Lansing. She enjoyed traveling as well. Some of her favorite trips were to Hawaii, Texas and Branson, MO. Mary Ann is survived by one son, Wesley (Barbara) Dawson of Lake Mills, WI; one daughter, Susan (Lyle) Buhr of Sumner, IA; five grandchildren, Jeremy Buhr of Council Bluffs, IA, Jamie (LaRae) Buhr of Fairbank, IA, Blair (Robert Adolphson) Dawson of Chicago, IL, Joshua Buhr of Colorado Springs, CO, Grant Dawson of Madison, WI; six great-grandchildren, Noah Buhr, Jadyn Buhr, Taylor Buhr, Mara Dawson, Sawyer Buhr, Nya Dawson; many nieces and nephews; one special friend Lowell Weston. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Henry on July 20, 1993; two sisters, Ruby Riley, Vicki Mehman.

  1. Wesley and Susan……..my deepest sympathy on the loss of your mother. I knew both your parents and was luck to have worked with Mary Ann for many years at AMPI. I will remember how pleasant she was and also spending some time with them at the Mississippi. The best turtle and raisin cream pie.

    Your Mom was a great gal that worked for our folks. I remember getting off my can milk
    route and stopping in to the folks cafe and your Mom greeted me with a smile and lemon pie
    (she knew my favorite) It was a pleasure knowing your folks.
