Marlene “Pee Wee” Oxendine age 70 of New Hampton died Wednesday, March 16, 2010 at Mercy Medical Center in New Hampton. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 19, 2011, at Trinity Lutheran Church in New Hampton with Pastor Kevin Frey officiating. Tom Straw is the crossbearer. Dennis Strum will be the organist and Bonnie Lou Meighan vocalist, accompanying the congregation singing, 'Be Not Afraid', 'Amazing Grace' and 'May the Good Lord Bless and Keep You.' Larry Straw, Bill Straw, Jeremy Oxendine, Kyle Oxendine, Tyler Kuhn and Keaton Matthews were pallbearers. Private family interment will take place at a later date in the New Hampton City Cemetery. Friends may greet the family 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Friday, March 18, 2011, at the Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home, New Hampton. Visitation continues an hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Marlene “Pee Wee” Oxendine was born July16, 1940, in New Hampton, the daughter of Robert and Stella (Straw) Kalkbrenner. She received her education in New Hampton graduating from the New Hampton High School in 1958. On August 4, 1961, at Trinity Lutheran Church in New Hampton, she married Reynolds “Little Man” Oxendine. To this union four children were born. “Pee Wee” worked for many years at the former L-Kove and Time-Out Lounges in New Hampton. She later worked at the New Hampton Elementary School as a teachers-aid until her health forced her to retire in 1995. In her free time she enjoyed playing cards, spending time with family, crocheting and cross-stitching. Suvivors include her husband of 49 years, Reynolds, “Little Man”, one son, Steven Oxendine of New Hampton; three daughters, Jean Franzen of Monroe, NC, Susan Matthews (Tony) of New Hampton, Sally (Steve) Mills of Charles City; one brother, Richard (Jean) Kalkbrenner of Ankeny; six grandchildren, Jeremy Oxendine, Kyle Oxendine, Nichole (Justin) Nelson, Keaton Matthews, Brittany Kuhn and Tyler Kuhn; two great-grandchildren, Taylor Nelson and Madison Matthews. She was preceded in death by her parents; grandson, James Matthews; Hank Eischeid who was raised by the Kalkbrenner family.

  1. We are so sorry to hear about PeeWee. We were out of town and couldn’t make it to the services. PeeWee was a good person and we enjoyed our conversations with her and catching up. You have our deepest sympathy. You are all in our thoughts & prayers.

  3. I’m so sad to hear that PeeWee passed away. I have so many great memories of her and they all make me smile. She was a lot of fun, one of a kind, had a heart of gold and there will never be anyone that will be like her. You all have a new angel watching over you. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
