Marie V. Leichtman, age 90 of New Hampton died Friday, September 10, 2010 at the New Hampton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 15, 2010 at Holy Family Parish – St. Mary’s Center, New Hampton. Interment will be in St. Marys Cemetery, New Hampton, with grandsons Scott Leichtman, Eric Leichtman, Mark Leichtman, John Leichtman, Cory Crawford, and Tony Crawford serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Sarah Leichtman, Angi Leichtman, Michelle Leichtman, Robyn Crawford, and Rebecca Leichtman. Friends may call 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 14, 2010, at the Hugeback and Chenoweth Funeral Home, New Hampton where there will be a 4:00 p.m. rosary and a 7:00 p.m. scripture service. Visitation will continue 11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Marie Veronica was born November 30, 1919 in New Hampton, Iowa, the daughter of Albert and Catherine (Laures) Schueller. She lived in New Hampton all of her life. Before marriage, Marie worked for various families keeping house. On October 15, 1940, Marie married Lloyd Leichtman in New Hampton. To this union, three children were born. They resided on the family farm northeast of New Hampton. Marie had a passion for cooking. She is famous for her nut cupcakes. She kept herself busy selling eggs to the neighbors, and enjoyed covering coat hangers. She was a member of the Putter Pals Friendship Club and the Catholic Daughters of America. Marie enjoyed playing cards, and in her later years spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be remembered by all for her bright smile. Marie is survived by one son, Ron (Faye) Leichtman of New Hampton; one daughter, Carol (Ed) Crawford of New Hampton; a daughter-in-law, Pat Leichtman of New Hampton; three sisters, Henrietta Elenz, Delores Schwickerath, and Kathleen Hilsman, all of New Hampton; a sister-in-law, Claudia Schueller of New Hampton; a brother-in-law, Duane Leichtman of New Hampton; seven grandchildren, Scott (Angi) Leichtman of New Hampton, Eric (Michelle) Leichtman of Coralville, Mark (Rebecca) Leichtman of Fredericksburg, John (Carlye) Leichtman of Conifer, CO, Sarah Leichtman of New Hampton, Cory Crawford of Woodbridge, NJ, and Tony (Robyn) Crawford of New Hampton; 10 great-grandchildren, Skyler Hoth, Alissa Hoth, Tanner Leichtman, Adelyn Leichtman, Cohen Leichtman, Caiden Crawford, Ashlee Crawford, Caycee Crawford, Hannah Leichtman, and Luke Leichtman. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Lloyd in 1999; a son, Larry; two brothers, Clarence Schueller, and Lawrence Schueller; and two sisters, Sally Weigel, and Genevieve Lewis.
