Marie Ann Griffin, age 48 of Charles City, Iowa died Friday, January 22, 2010, at the Muse-Norris Hospice in Mason City. Public visitation has been postponed to Tuesday and will be held 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 26, 2010, at the Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home in Nashua. At Marie’s request, private family services and interment in Sunnyside Cemetery will be held. Marie Ann Griffin was born April 21, 1961, in Charles City, the daughter of Cordell and Shirley (Hansen) Martin. She received her education in Nashua, graduating from the Nashua High School in 1979. In 1980, she married Doug Griffin in Charles City. To this union two children were born. The couple later divorced. Marie worked for many years at the Cedar Ridge Golf Course in Charles City. In her free time she enjoyed cooking and catering but especially enjoyed the time spent with her children and grandchildren. Survivors include one daughter, Jamie Griffin; one son, Joshua Griffin, both of Charles City; five grandchildren, Jasmine Miller, Corden Poyner, Jayden Poyner, Isabell Griffin & Marcus Griffin; her parents, Cordell and Shirley Martin of Nashua; two sisters, Penny (Rick) Kruse of Cedar Falls, Shelly (Steve) Mourer of Sebring, FL; one brother, Rod (Teresa) Martin of Mason City; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her grandparents and a special friend, Dan Smith.

  8. Our condolences to Marie’s family. Marie always had a smile and a pleasant comment-no matter what type of day she was having. She accepted everything life handed her without complaint and always displayed a huge amount of common sense. We will miss her dry sense of humor. We will not be able to attend this evening due to the weather but our thoughts are with you.

Jamie and Josh~ I am so sorry to hear of your loss… I just lost my mother last month and I know exactly what your going through… I know that things dont seem like they will get any better but you just got to be strong for your lil ones and I promise things will get better… I know that through out the years we have grown apart but I have never forgotten about you guys…. just stay strong and keep your head up… I love you guys…

  12. Marie, Who knew that we would both be in the hospital together, you called me everyday to see how I was and make sure that I was getting better. I thought that I was sicker than you but I guess I was wrong. How cool that you got my room and my bed! Guess it just worked out that way. I will never forget us always conversing about what we were going to have for lunch or dinner that day and what was good and what wasn’t, those were our worst times but times we were together.   15. It still doesn’t seem possible that you are gone. You were so brave & strong when you found out you had cancer. You didn’t want any of us to know how sick you really were.
