Marcella Rose Wurzer was born near St. Lucas, Iowa on May 6, 1918, the daughter of John and Mathilda (Kruse) Ameling. She attended St. Lukes School in St. Lucas. On June 20, 1939, Marcella was united in marriage to Tony Wurzer at St. Lukes Catholic Church in St. Lucas, Iowa. The couple farmed south of Lawler where they lived for over 50 years and raised seven children.
Marcella loved to play cards. She and her husband, Tony, belonged to a card club for over 40 years and loved the special times and friends they made along the years. She had a passion for growing flowers, especially African Violets. This hobby went hand in hand with her love of gardening, quilting, baking, especially butter horns, and sewing. She was extremely talented with her hobbies. Marcella sewed her daughters’ bridal gowns and bridesmaid dresses as well as many prom dresses throughout the years. With her husband, she enjoyed trips to Germany, Washington D.C., Hawaii, and Mexico. She also enjoyed a trip to San Diego to visit a granddaughter. A particularly memorable trip was to Colorado to visit a granddaughter where Marcella became stranded on the interstate for seven hours due to bad weather, yet she still had a good time. Marcella was a member of our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Lawler, IA and a 50 year member of the Catholic Daughters of America.
Marcella will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She touched many hearts with her caring and thoughtfulness. She was a very gracious hostess and made sure no one left her house hungry.

I wanted to make a correction on my tribute to Marcella: I’m sure that Jesus, a whole host of angels, countless saints and all of her friends and relatives greeted her with open arms, smiling joyfully, just like she always did and will do forever and ever.
I, Dale Asleson, would like to express my deepest sympathy in the recent death of Marcella. I’d also like to express my sympathy on behalf of Hedwig Baba and her sons Gerold, Ludger and Ulrich and also from Gerold’s wife, Simone, and their family all from Germany. Marcella opened her heart and home to me and also to Gerold when he was with me. She was a superior cook and she could make plants grow and bloom better than anyone else that I knew. In addition to that, she genuinely enjoyed speaking and writing German. I thoroughly enjoyed our German conversations. She walked with Jesus with every step she took. When she passed from this life to the next, I’m sure that Jesus, a whole host of angels and all of her friends and relatives greated her with open arms, smiling joyfully, just like she always did and will for ever and ever.

To Marcella’s family, You are in my thoughts and prayers at this trying time. You all took such good care of your Mom, all the decorating of her home and her room. Then making sure she had the care she needed these past weeks. Sympathy to all. Loove Bernice
I was very blessed to have Marcella as my Mom. She was always there for me. I wish I had a tenth of the talents she had. Some of them were, she could grow anything, sew everything and cook and bake wonderful foods. Some of my favorites were prune kolaches, apple strudel and kraut smear. I envied her organizational skills and calm demeanor. She had unfailing faith in Jesus. I will miss her terribly. Shirley
Yes, your mother had a multitude of God-given talents and she used them to the utmost of her ability. I had the privilege to partake in your mother’s delicious meals. Everything that she created seemed to have been sprinkled with God’s love. I will miss her as well; however, I know that she is singing and dancing with Jesus now.
Shirley, I am very sorry for your loss. She sounds like a wonderful lady and mother. Lorely (Downes) Van Sant
Shirley, May your memories of the wonderful times you shared with your Mom comfort you and your family today and always. With Deepest Sympathy, Karen (Gitch) Ellsworth

Where do I begin? Marcella was always there when we needed her. Loved going to her house, always welcomed. Glad she was my caretaker when I was little,(this was what I was told). When she and Tony were married, I was just 1 year and 8 months old, so I do not remember her living with us. She was always my older sister! Loved playing cards with her. Great player, had me beat most of the time. Love her and will miss her Love and Prayers Bernice.

This was Marcella’s 94th birthday party and Glen Davis’ restaurant in Fredericksburg. Glen always opened up his back room and we celebrated Marcella’s last 3 birthdays there!
I visited Marcella often at Rehab. She was always so gentle and friendly. As each season changed, I would stop to view the outstanding decor in her room that her loving family provided. Her proud comment was, ‘my family wants me to be happy.’ You have my sympathy as you face the days without this sweet lady. I feel fortunate to have met her.
