Marcella A. Carlin, age 95, of Lawler, Iowa died Wednesday, September 8, 2010 at Mercy Medical Center in New Hampton, Iowa. Marcella Ann Hentges was born May 27, 1915 to Frank and Anna (Hilsman) Hentges on the family farm near North Washington, Iowa. She received her education at St. Marys School in North Washington. After graduation, Marcella was employed in the W. J. Tiernan home in New Hampton. On October 3, 1938 Marcella was united in marriage to James J. Carlin at St. Marys Church in New Hampton. The couple farmed their entire married life on a farm west of Lawler. Two children, Daniel and Patricia, were born to this union. Marcella enjoyed a competitive game of cards, baking, fishing, and especially spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of the Lawler American Legion Auxiliary for 63 proud years, and a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Lawler. Marcella is survived by her son, Dan (Mary Eileen) Carlin of Lawler; six grandchildren, Susan (Wayne) Troyna, Dannette (Mike) Roethler, Jodi (DJ) Njus, Lea (Stephen Holcomb) Carlin, Pat Carlin, and Paul Carlin; seven great-grandchildren; and one brother, Francis (Myrna) Hentges of New Hampton. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, James on March 14, 1980; her parents; her daughter, Patricia Schultz; one brother, Ralph Hentges and his wife, Shirley Hentges; one sister, Muriel Peters, and her husband, Ike Peters. Memorials: Memorials may be directed to the family. Cemetery: Burial will be in Our Lady of Mt Carmel Cemetery at Lawler with Anthony Troyna, Alex Troyna, Megan Roethler, Dillon Njus, Tanner Njus, Drew Roethler, and Brynn Roethler as honorary casket bearers. Serving as casket bearers will be Pat Carlin, Paul Carlin, Wayne Troyna, DJ Njus, Mike Roethler, Stephen Holcomb, Gene Schultz, Jr., and Mike Hansen. Visitation: Visitation will be 4:00PM to 7:00PM on Friday, September 10, 2010 at Conway-Kolbet Funeral Home in New Hampton with rosary at 5:00PM and Legion Auxiliary service at 5:30 PM. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Service: Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30AM on Saturday, September 11, 2010 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Lawler, Iowa with Father Marvin Salz as celebrant. Lector will be Kathy Timlin. Music will be provided by Dennis and Michelle Lau. Gift bearers will be Francis and Myrna Hentges. The Pall will be placed by Dan and Mary Eileen Carlin.
