Magdalene (Maggie) Anne Sloan age 87 of Rochester, MN, formerly of Waucoma, IA, died Friday, October 27, 2023, at the Stewartville Care Center in Stewartville, MN. A Memorial Mass will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday , November 4, 2023 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Waucoma with Rev. Nick Radloff celebrating the Mass. Friends may greet the family an hour prior to the Mass at the church. Rosary will be held at 8:40 a.m. at the church, all are welcome to attend. Maggie was born in Calmar, IA on July 20, 1936 to Adolph J. and Mae (Riehle) Mashek. She attended St. Joseph’s Catholic School in New Hampton. After her schooling she worked at St. Joseph’s Hospital as a receptionist and helped on the family farm. On February 14, 1957, she was united in marriage to John (Jack) Lawrence Sloan at St. Joseph’s Church in New Hampton. They lived in Waucoma where they raised their two daughters and two sons. In addition to raising a family, Maggie sold Avon and worked at Meinertz Creamery in Fredericksburg, Iowa, Lauer & Lauer Insurance and Sloan Insurance – both in Waucoma, Iowa. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas #1806. She enjoyed her family, gardening, flowers, baking/cooking, decorating their home (that she was so proud of) for the holidays and trips to local casinos and Las Vegas with family and friends. Maggie brought joy to so many people and continues to give after her passing as her body was donated to the Mayo Clinic Body Donation program for medical and Alzheimers research. Maggie is survived by her children, Sharon (Barry) Downes/Anderson of Henderson, NV; Diane (Mark) Kubeja of Sugarloaf, CA; John (Roxanne) Sloan of Atkins, IA; and Thomas (Brenda) Sloan of Rochester, MN; 11 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; two sisters - Alice (Carroll) Rosenberg of Coeur d’Alene, ID and Theresa Berry of San Jose, CA; two sister-in-laws - Ruth (John) Neuzil of Charles City, IA and Jane (Leo) Huber of Davenport, IA; and many nieces and nephews. Maggie was preceded in death by her parents; her father-in-law and mother-in-law - Leo and Fidellis (Woods) Sloan of Waucoma, IA; four brothers - Donald (Marianne) Mashek of Lawler IA; Adolf James (Agnes) Mashek of New Hampton, Iowa; Virgil Mashek of Lawler, IA; and Jerome Mashek of Eleva, WI; one sister - Dorothy (Edward)Flick; and several sister and brother-in-laws.
