M. Warren Griffin, age 85, of New Hampton, died on Tuesday, September 15, 2009 at Methodist Hospital in Rochester, MN.
M. Warren Griffin was born on February 25, 1924 to Edward and Helen (Biekert) Griffin near Ionia, IA. He attended Chickasaw Country School, Ionia Public School and graduated from Nashua High School in 1942. After graduation Warren worked on the farm with his dad until entering the US Navy in 1945 serving his county during World War II. He received his honorable discharge in 1947. On December 15, 1947 he was united in marriage to Lois M. Mack at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Nashua. Following their marriage the couple resided on a farm 1 miles east of Dorgan Bridge. Warren attended Iowa State University taking courses in agricultural and farm operations. The couple later moved to the farm where Warren currently resided. Warren enjoyed farming, especially planting and harvesting, and raising and feeding beef cattle.
Warren served as a commissioner on the Chickasaw County Soil Conservation Board in New Hampton, also served on the New Hampton School Board for three terms, Trinity Lutheran Church Council, Chickasaw Mutual Insurance Board, Chickasaw County Cattlemen Board, was a member of the Iowa Cattlemen Association, Trinity Lutheran Church and the American Legion.
He is survived by his three sons, Gary L. (Kristin) Griffin of New Hampton, Garth W. (Nancy) Griffin of New Hampton and Allen P. (Cindy) Griffin of Denver, CO; five grandchildren Cody, Crystal, Grant (Amanda), Stephanie and Olivia; one sister Beverly Clancy of Longmont, CO; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend Joan Oelke of New Hampton
Warren was preceded in death by his parents; wife Lois on July 9, 2003; one granddaughter Caitlin.
Cemetery:
Burial will be in New Hampton Cemetery with Neal Schwickerath, Douglas Mack, Steve McGrath, Stuart Anderson, David Speicher and Thomas Ryan serving as casket bearers. Military rites will be provided by the New Hampton American Legion Fae Stine Post #38.
Visitation:
Visitation will be from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Sunday, September 20, 2009 at the Conway-Kolbet Funeral Home in New Hampton and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
Service:
Funeral services will be 10:30 AM on Monday, September 21, 2009 at Trinity Lutheran Church in New Hampton with Reverend Kevin Frey officiating.
