Lynn Stevenson

Lynn B. Stevenson, age 81, of Elma, IA died on Saturday, December 12, 2009at Colonial Manor in Elma. Lynn Bernard Stevenson was born on September 18, 1928 to Lynn A. and Nellie (Seavy) Stevenson on the farm east of Elma. He graduated from Elma High School, and later graduated from Upper Iowa University at Fayette, IA with a Bachelor of Science degree in education. Lynn was united in marriage to Amojean Murphy on August 29, 1947 in Waterloo, IA. The couple moved to South Dakota near Gettysburg where his teaching career began. He taught there for five years before returning to Iowa where he taught country school near Maple Leaf, IA. During this time he also farmed until 1963. Lynn finished his teaching career in Cresco, IA, teaching the sixth grade. After twenty seven years he retired from teaching and became district sales manager for Old North West Insurance Company of Minneapolis, MN for seventeen years. Lynn enjoyed playing cards, reading, riding horses, tinkering on cars, music, playing the harmonica, calling square dances, and being with his family. He is survived by his four children, Lynn E. (Diana) Stevenson of Alta Vista, IA, Cheri (Dennis) Austin of Osage, IA, Michael (Diana) Stevenson of Prairie DuChien, WI, and Terri (Darwin) Kock of Elma, IA. Lynn is also survived by brothers, Kenneth Stevenson of Elma, and Donald Stevenson of West Covina, CA, twelve grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Amojean on October 31, 2006, sister Marjorie Wells, brother Brice Stevenson, and two sisters-in-law Betty and Barbara. Cemetery: Burial will be in Howard Cemetery at Elma at a later date. Service: A Memorial Open House will be held on Saturday, December 19, 2009 from 9:00am - 12:00pm at the Memorial Hall in Elma.
