Lyle W. Schaufenbuel age 72 of New Hampton passed away surrounded by his family on Monday evening, August 1, 2011, at his home of heart failure. A Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate his life will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 5, 2011, at Holy Family Parish-St. Joseph Center, New Hampton with Rev. Mark Osterhaus celebrating the Mass. The pall will be placed on the casket by his wife and children. Lectors will be Darren Schaufenbuel and Roscoe McDonald. The offertory gifts will be presented by Peyton Thompson, Ali Grove, Chase Buzicky and Cassidy Grove. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, New Hampton with Jeremy Schaufenbuel, Zach Grove, Seth Grove, Rena Thompson, Lake Buzicky and Brian Mahlstedt serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Jamie Steege, Halie Grove, Jenna Grove, Zac Mahlstedt and Sheree Mahlstedt Friends may greet the family 3:00 - 8:00 p.m. Thursday, August 4, 2011, at the Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home in New Hampton where there will be a 4:00 p.m. rosary and a 6:00 p.m. parish scripture service. Visitation continues an hour prior to the Mass at church on Friday. Lyle William Schaufenbuel was born August 20, 1938, on the family farm near Waucoma, IA, the son of Leo and Elizabeth (Bieker) Schaufenbuel. He received his education in Lawler and graduated from the Lawler High School in 1956. On June 30, 1962, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in New Hampton, he married Lou Ann Lukes. To this union four children were born. Just prior to his marriage, Lyle purchased the Standard Oil Gas Station on the corner of Main and Pleasant Hill, later also owning and operating the Standard Station on Main and Walnut. He later built the Standard Station on Linn Ave. Lyle spent over 30 years with Standard Oil. Lyle also built his car wash and continued to sell used cars until the time of his death. He loved house-boating on the Mississippi, collecting vintage cars and he dearly loved time with his family. He enjoyed going shopping, 50’s and 60’s music, playing euchre and his trips to Mexico including the most recent trip in January with his entire family. Survivors include the love of his life for over 49 years, Lou Ann; one son, Todd (Ranee) Schaufenbuel of New Hampton; three daughters, Denise (Steve) Grove of New Hampton, Amy (Tock) Thompson of Sun Prairie, WI, Tina (Mike) Buzicky of Hudson, WI; twelve grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; one brother, Ron Schaufenbuel of New Hampton; three sisters-in-law; Karen Krall of New Hampton, Patricia Lukes (Bob Volker) of New Hampton, June LaBarge of Ft. Dodge, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents, his father and mother-in-law, Clarence and Rosa (Berst) Lukes; two brothers-in-law, Dale Krall, Larry Swehla; great-grandson, Eli Grove.

  4. We weren’t able to attend any of the services for Lyle–but we just watched the video!! WOW!!! What a wonderful tribute! You guys always had such a wonderful relationship- not only as husband and wife, but with your family!! As the song says– ‘remember when..’ and he will be with you forever!!!   10. Lou Ann – I am so sorry to hear of Lyle’s passing. Please know that you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers this day. I remember so well the station at the corner of Walnut and Main Street. Jim McGrath and I spent many hours when you add them all up chatting with Lyle talking about cars etc. He had such a great smile – I can easily close my eyes and see him even now. Again Lou Ann please know that I am thinking of you and I know for sure he is probably checking and later on chaning the oil on St. Peter’s car.

My dad used to work for Lyle in High School…between my dad and I we have fond memories of the that gas station….it was an icon in NH 🙂 Dad (Tom Finnegan) never had a bad thing to say about him…he is going to be missed terribly!
