Lyle Edward Waterman, age 80 of Nashua, Iowa died Wednesday August 26, 2015 at Cedar Vale Assisted Living in Nashua.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday August 31, 2015 at United Methodist Church in Nashua with Rev. John Tunnicliff presiding.
Friends may call 2:00 - 5:00 p.m. Sunday August 30, 2015 at the Hugeback Johnson Funeral Home – Olson Chapel in Nashua. Visitation continues an hour prior to the service on Monday at the church.
Interment will be at Sunnyside Memory Gardens in Charles City with Mike Lindner, David Lindner, Ed Lindner, Rol Winter, John Winter and Diane Ganske serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Dennis Lindner and Randy Lindner.
Lyle Edward Waterman was born May 23, 1935, in Oelwein, IA, the son of George and Thelma (Troupe) Waterman. He attended catholic school in Oelwein before moving on to the Oelwein High School. After high school he joined the United States Air Force. He was stationed near El Paso, Texas with the position of maintenance on B36 Bombers. After an honorable discharge from the Air Force he traveled back to Oelwein. While being on a blind date, Lyle met the love of his life, Karen Lindsey. The two were united in marriage on August 17, 1963 at the Methodist Church in Fredericksburg. To this union one daughter, Debbie, was born.
Lyle worked for White Farms in Charles City, the former Oliver Equipment Company. He did a lot of the hands on work in the factory and some painting as well. He also was a volunteer for the ambulance service in Nashua. Lyle enjoyed repairing and building things; he often would repair small appliances for people. Camping was something the couple loved to do. They would often travel places and camp for extended periods of time. Lyle enjoyed cooking over an open flame and the smell of the outdoors. He served as the State Director for the Good Sams Camping Club.
Lyle is survived by his wife of 52 years, Karen; one grandchild, Jenni Schmidt of Wisconsin; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Violet (Merlwin) Lindner of Nashua.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Debbie Waterman; one grandson, Jesse Schmit; two brothers, Leonard Waterman, Orville Waterman; two sisters Virginia Winter, Eileen Cue.

Karen, remember the apple trees? One of them looked like it had apples on it this year. First time I have ever seen fruit on them. So sorry to hear about Lyle, I always thought very highly of him.

Karen, I’m so sorry for your loss. I enjoyed working with Lyle when he made donuts at Caseys. He’ll be missed.
My thoughts and prayers are with the Waterman Family. I will never forget working on the ambulance with Lyle. He always teased me about being too short to lift the cart into the ambulance! He was a good guy and will be missed.
