Lyle Cecil Stolfus age 73 of Fredericksburg died Wednesday, April 14, 2010, at his home. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 19, 2010, at the Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home in Fredericksburg with Hugh Mackintosh officiating. Special CD selections will be 'I'm But A Stranger Here' and 'Battle Hymn of the Republic'. Pallbearers are Kevin Ward, Denny Ungs, LeRoy Wilkes, Dan Feller, Scott Truax and Chad Holtzman. Military honors will be conducted by the Fredericksburg AMVETS. Friends may call 2:00 - 5:00 p.m. Sunday at Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home in Fredericksburg. Visitation continues an hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Private family interment will be held in Rose Hill Cemetery, Fredericksburg. Lyle was born November 25, 1936, in New Hampton, Iowa the son of Herbert “Barney” and Ella Mae (Ingalls) Stolfus. He received his education in New Hampton and attended the New Hampton High School. He served in the United States Air Force for five years, having been stationed in Germany, Iceland and Africa. He was honorably discharged on February 14, 1962. Lyle worked many years in Waterloo where he also owned Lyle’s Imports. He was later a self-employed mechanic in Fredericksburg for 21 years and a member of the Fredericksburg AMVETS. On July 30, 1988, he married Helen Mary Kilcher. The couple made their home in Fredericksburg. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, building and inventing things. If it was broken, Lyle could fix it. Survivors include his wife, Helen; five daughters, Sue (Dan) Feller of Waterloo, Denise (Scott) Truax of LaPorte City, IA, Lila (Kevin) Ward of Scottsdale, AZ, Debbie (LeRoy) Wilkes of Waterloo and Marnie (Chad) Holtzman of Cedar Falls; 15 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Lowell (Linda) Stolfus and Richard (Diane) Stolfus, all of New Hampton, Eddie (Val) Stolfus of Sumner; two sisters, Darise (Jim) Donat of Maynard, IA and Janice Hesse of Sumner; two step-sons, Bill Kilcher and Don Kilcher both of Fredericksburg; six step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Herbert Stolfus and Loren Stolfus; one brother-in-law, LaVern Hesse.

  2. Lyle Stolfus family, I’m sorry to here of the passing of Lyle. We go a little ways back to when he was flying R.C. airplanes. I always enjoyed being around Lyle and had great times flying and I’m sure most of the members of the New Hampton Flying Club will remember him and all his efforts at his flying field.
