Lurton M. Grummitt age 73 of Allison, IA, formerly of New Hartford, died Tuesday, April 17, 2018, at the Clarksville Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 21, 2018, at Hillcrest Baptist & Brethren Church, Fredericksburg, with Rev. Todd Yeaton presiding. Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Fredericksburg.
Friends may greet the family beginning at 9:00 a.m. Saturday at the church
Lurton Milton Grummitt was born May 18, 1944, in New Hampton, IA, the son of Milton and Dorothy (Slick) Grummitt. He received his education in the Fredericksburg schools. On February 11, 1961, he was united in marriage to Julia Ahrenholz. To this union three children were born, Kirk, Kimberly and Marvin. In a tragic auto accident, Julia was fatally injured on June 20, 1976. On September 3, 1977, in Fredericksburg, IA, he was united in marriage to Janice Isenhower. To this union a son Mitchell was born. Lurton had worked at the Sumner Creamery, and also as a truck driver and heavy equipment operator until starting at John Deere in Waterloo in 1972. He retired in 1997 after working in the foundry for 25 years. Lurton didn’t stand still in retirement, he continued driving truck for many farmers in the Butler County area. As a young man, he loved stock car racing and later helped his son and nephews in the pits for their time racing. He liked fishing with his family, polishing and then riding his Harley, working in the shop and trips in the truck with his son, Marv. He especially loved time with the grandchildren. He had to enter the nursing home in 2017 following a debilitating fall.
Survivors include his wife, Janice; four children, Kirk (Kris) Grummitt of Rochester, MN, Kim Powell of New Hartford, Marvin Grummitt of Steamboat Rock, IA, Mitchell Grummitt of Bristow, IA; seven grandchildren, Michelle (Curt) Smith, Sarah (Ron) Dietrick, Evan Grummitt (Josie Bohner), Julia Grummitt, Justine Grummitt, Wyatt Grummitt, Kyler Grummitt; seven great grandchildren, Hailey Smith, Madison Smith, Payton Smith, Karlee Smith, Clayton Dietrick, Hayden Grummitt, Rowan Grummitt; four sisters, Karla (Bill) Kelley, Sharon (David) Isenhower, Brenda (David) Speicher, all of Fredericksburg, Randa (Randy) Harrison of Maynard, IA; three sisters-in-law, Virginia O’Day of St. Charles, MO, Joyce Langfitt of Windsor Heights, IA, Barb (Keith) Speicher of Fredericksburg; father-in-law, Wes Isenhower of Fredericksbrug; forty-three nieces and nephews; numerous great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; step-father, Martin Griesert; his first wife, Julia Grummitt; mother-in-law, Iva Jean Isenhower; sister-in-law, Brenda Wurzer; brothers-in-law, Randy O’Day and Dennis Isenhower; two nieces Corrine Martin, Tammy Langfitt.

God bless the Grummitt family. I work with ole Lurt in J D foundry for many years. He was one guy that would make any job we did Fun. Lurt always had a fishing story to tell and one weekend we all went to his place on the Mississippi and made a few stories too. Doug Hall Brooking , South Dakota
Sorry to learn of Lurtons passing. I knew of Lurton from racing back in the 60 & 70s. A nice guy and a tough competitor. I’ll remember them days and I had a chance a few years ago to see Him at the races in Allison. Was good to see him. He’s in Gods hand now, & I think they will do well.
