December 6, 1996 ~ December 7, 2024

Born in: East Lansing , Michigan
Resided in: Nashua, Iowa

Luke Frederick Kehret, 28,of Nashua, Iowa, was born in East Lansing, Michigan on December 6, 1996. He attended school in Nashua and Charles City, Iowa, participating in band and track, and graduating in 2016. Luke lived on the wild side, always ready for the next adventure (which often involved a lifted diesel truck!).He was active in both Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, achieving the Life Scout rank and receiving the Order of the Arrow. He went on to work 3 summers as a lifeguard at Camp Ingawanis near Waverly.

Luke died December 7th, 2024, after a long battle with addiction. He had a caring heart and looked for the good in everyone he met, but he also battled personal demons, turning to drugs to block out the pain. Time in correction centers and treatment programs brought temporary reprieves from the addiction cycle, but eventually the lure of drugs would resurface, and ultimately claim his life. His drug use caused suffering not only for him, but for his family and friends as well, something that is all too common in our society. By acknowledging the circumstances of his death, we hope to help shed light on this epidemic and encourage advancements in mental health treatment of substance abuse rather than mandated incarceration for the criminal activity it perpetuates.

Luke is survived by his loving parents, Dan and June Kehret of Nashua, and a sister Torie (Rory) Strippel of Waterloo, as well as numerous relatives, friends, and his beloved yellow lab “Sargent”. A celebration of life is planned for spring, with burial in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, rural Nashua.

Hugeback – Johnson Funeral Home & Crematory – Olson Chapel in Nashua has been entrusted with arrangements.

  4. I did not know this man. But instead of saying he passed from natural causes as most would, his family chose to spread awareness on something very important that many others struggle with. I think that is very beautiful. May he rest in peace and find the happiness he couldn’t find here on Earth.🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽

  5. I had the pleasure to know Luke through working with him at Curries he was hard working and always making it fun to be at work. Thought and prayers goes out to family and friends

  6. Luke was a solid friend more like a brother, he was there for my daughter and I at a moments notice and was one of the best friends I have ever had, we shared many awesome memories… Luke you will forever be loved and missed by many

  8. Luke, you loved me like a brother and I’ll always cherish the time we spent together getting into trouble and working. I’m gonna miss you man, you were there anytime I needed someone. One of the purest souls I’ve ever met, he was truly kind and down to earth despite dealing with his demons. 💜

  9. My love and sympathy to all of you. I remember Luke very well from his time at the middle school. I will keep you all close to my heart. I’m so sorry for your loss.

  10. Dan & June,
We are so sorry to hear of Luke’s passing. We didn’t know him well but Alex would share what a good-hearted person he was. Sending prayers for God to walk with you during this time.

  11. I didn’t know this young man either, as Ciarra stated in her comment. This is such a terrible disease that unfortunately is not getting enough help nor attention in this state. ( don’t want to make this political) I am saddened to read this but also pray it brings attention to those fighting this daily battle. May he rest in peace and may his family know, we are all praying for your peace at this horrific time. May God hold you all close….

  12. My heartbreaks for this family. I totally understand the drug addiction world. Having a child involved in that world also hurts so much. Know that you were great parents. My daughter had been using since she was a teen and finally at the age of 42 Jesus has helped her stay clean going on3 years. I know many times I felt she would be dead from those drugs. Know your family is in my prayers.

  13. We are so sorry to hear of Luke’s death and we applaud you for speaking the truth in his obituary, as addiction touches so many families. We are thinking of you at this sad and tragic time.
