Louis L. Link age 91 of Elma, former long-time Ionia resident passed away, Wednesday, November 23, 2011, at Colonial Manor in Elma. He was surrounded by his loving family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 26, 2011, at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Ionia, with Rev. Mark Osterhaus celebrating the Mass. The pall will be placed on the casket by his eight granddaughters and Dan Roberts will serve as Lector. Presenting the offertory gifts will be his five children.
Interment will be in St. Boniface Cemetery, Ionia with grandsons, David Link, Jeff Link, Vince Link, Kevin Link, Brett Chenoweth, Andrew Chenoweth, Shane Link and Justin Link serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are granddaughters, Margi Lehman, Jackie Lenz, Lynette Laures, Carol Mitchell, Julie Fagle, Alyson Gearhart, Brooke Jones and Kelly Crouch.
Friends may greet the family 4:00 – 9:00 p.m. Friday, November 25, 2011, at the Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home in Nashua where there will be a 4:00 p.m. rosary and a 7:00 p.m. parish scripture service. Visitation continues an hour prior to the Mass at church on Saturday.
Louis Leander Link was born November 25, 1919, in rural Chickasaw County, IA, the son of Elihu and Agnes (Jordon) Link. He received his education in rural country school and was a 1938 graduate of the Ionia High School. On September 16, 1939, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Ionia, he married his high school sweetheart, Mary C. Meyer. The couple celebrated 72 years of marriage last September. To this union five children were born. Louis was a WWII Veteran having served in the United States Army in the Pacific Theater from 1944-1946 as a combat military policeman. Louis farmed in the Chickasaw area for over 65 years and had lived the last four years at the Colonial Manor in Elma. He will long be remembered and dearly missed by his family and friends.
Survivors include his loving wife of 72 years, Mary; three sons, John (Kay) Link of Mason Neck, VA, James (Sandra) Link of Ionia, Terence (Ellen) Link of Pembroke Pines, FL; two daughters, Judith (Craig) Chenoweth of Fitchburg, WI, Marilou (Dan) Roberts of Clemson, SC; sixteen grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Elihue “Beek” Link; one sister, Nellie Crooks.
Louie was the BEST uncle a guy could want.
Sorry to hear of your dad’s passing .. special thoughts to the entire Link family .. and esp. Jack & Kay (both classmates of my 1st husband Dick Schmidt)…sincere sympathy and prayers to all of you.

Thinking of you at this time of loss. I have many memories of Louis and Mary,being around them as well as Nellie & Charlie while spending time with my grandpa and grandma Meyer.
