Lorraine L. Busta age 94 of Protivin, formerly of Little Turkey, IA, died Monday, February 05, 2018, at the New Hampton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 8, 2018, at Assumption Parish, Little Turkey, with Rev. Kyle Digmann celebrating the Mass. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Little Turkey with Jeff Ott, Tracy Ott, Brennen Ott, Mitchell Sipos, Eli Sipos, Kam Miller, Chris Niedbalski and Jeanne Kuennen serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Dan Kuennen, Brian Sipos and Matt Busta. Friends may greet the family 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 7, 2018, at the Hugeback-Johnson Funeral Home in New Hampton where there will be a 4:00 p.m. rosary. Visitation continues from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Lorraine Lillian Busta was born on the Dvorak family farm near Ridgeway, IA, on November 13, 1923. She was the youngest of six children born to Frank and Mary (Klema) Dvorak. Lorraine received her education in Spillville and Ridgeway country schools. On November 18, 1941, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Spillville, Iowa she married Benjamin W. Busta. Ben and Lorraine were married over 63 years. Ben passed away October 23, 2004. Lorraine and Ben were blessed with four children and raised their family near Little Turkey. The couple retired and moved to Protivin in 1986. Lorraine loved gardening and sharing her flowers with the churches in Little Turkey and Protivin. She loved sewing and quilting along with making quilts for all her family. While on the farm, she raised chickens which she loved like pets. Lorraine and Ben traveled extensively during their retirement going to China, Italy, The Holy Land and India. She has a passion for baking and cooking for her family, with her Kolaches being famous in the area. Lorraine will be remembered by her family and friends alike as a kind and caring mother, grandmother and friend. She is survived by her four children, Mary Ann (Jean) Ott of Waucoma, Alice (Robert) Kuennen of Cedar Falls, James (Rita) Busta of Mountain Grove, MO and Steven (Sue) Busta of Lawler; ten grandchildren, Angie (Brian) Sipos, Jeanne Kuennen, Dan (Courtney) Kuennen, Jeffrey (Ruth) Ott, Melissa (Kam) Miller, Tracy (Paula) Ott, Matt (Kelly) Busta, Natalie Busta, Sarah Busta and Carrie Busta; nine great-grandchildren, Mitchell Sipos, Eli Sipos, Brian Kuennen, Brennen (Emily) Ott, Caroline Ott, Miranda Ott, Brinley Miller, Max Miller, Wade Schmitt; one great-great-grandson, Wyatt Johnson. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sisters, Mabel Hovden and Mayme Vopava; three brothers, Leonard Dvorak, Clarence Dvorak and Julius Dvorak.

  1. God has called a very special lady. She will be missed on our Little Turkey Ladies get-together visits. She always was smiling and what talent this woman had with her sewing. We so enjoyed our time with her and she always had a treat for us. Mary Ann, Alice, Jim and Steve know that we are thinking of you at this difficult time and you are in our prayers and thoughts.   4. Great Aunt Lorraine was one of the nicest and most patient person I ever knew. I remember spending time on the Busta farm as a child when mom would go to visit. She remained calm as all 8 of us kids would run up and then down the 2 staircases in her beautiful home. My sympathy to all of you.
