Lorraine A. Flatjord age 80 of Jerico, Iowa died Sunday August 25, 2013, at her home surrounded by her family. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 28, 2013, at Immanuel Lutheran Church – Crane Creek, rural Lawler, with Pastor Vincent Fricke presiding. Internment will be in the church cemetery, with Melissa Shannon, Darcie Stone, Jamie Hart, Jessica Miller, Carrie Schwake, Christina Flatjord, Amanda Flatjord, Michelle Tracy, Tina Fox, and Megan Johnson serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Travis Flatjord, Corey Flatjord, Aaron Johnson, and Jared Johnson. Friends may greet the family 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 27, 2013, at Bethany Hall (1 mile east of Jerico and mile South). Visitation continues an hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. If so desired, memorials may be made to the family. Hugeback – Johnson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Lorraine Alice (Clites) Flatjord was born December 8, 1932 in New Hampton, IA, the daughter of Leonard and Ora (Jacobson) Clites. Lorraine attended school in New Hampton and was a graduate from New Hampton High School in 1952. After completing high school Lorraine was employed as an aide at St. Joseph’s Hospital in New Hampton. She met Neal Flatjord during high school, and the couple was married on October 11, 1952 at the former St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. To this union six children were born. The wedding was a double ring ceremony shared with her sister Lucy and Vernon Johnson. Lorraine and Neal farmed near Jerico were they raised their children. You could find Lorraine helping on the farm however she could. She was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes fan. She had been known to listen to Iowa Hawkeye games during weddings. Lorraine enjoyed fishing, writing in her journal, reading, westerns, and having family and friends over to visit. She had a love for dogs especially, “Daisy May”. Survivors include her husband, Neal; five sons, Kim (Brenda) of Waukon, Bruce (Ann) Flatjord, Gene (Wanda) Flatjord all of Jerico; John (JoAnn) Flatjord of Zumbrota, MN, Randy (Vicki) Flatjord of Jerico; one daughter, Linda (Dennis) Johnson of New Hampton; fourteen grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; two sisters, Joan (Charles) Vikdal of New Hampton, Lucille (Vernon) Johnson of Rochester, MN; one sister-in-law, Diana Clites of New Hampton. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Robert Clites.

  1. I am so sorry for your loss. May ‘the God of all comfort’ (2 Corinthians 1:3,4) comfort and soothe your heart. His promises, found in the Holy Scriptures, can offer much hope. It assures us at John 5:28,29 that our loved ones will be remembered and brought back to life in the resurrection. Our sympathy to Lorraine’s family, and Lucille, and Joan and Diana families.I have such good memories of playing with Lorraine and Lucille in grade school years and then a good time in high school.
