Loretta Whalen

Loretta Patricia Whalen, age 85 of Lawler, IA, died Thursday, October 6, 2022, at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City.A private interment will take place at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Lawler with Rev. Jim Goerend, Holy Family Parish, New Hampton, presiding.Hugeback-Johnson Funeral Home & Crematory is assisting with the arrangements. Loretta Patricia Whalen was born March 16, 1937, in Waukon, IA, the daughter of Maurice and Alice (Haugsted) Whalen. The family moved to Lawler where she received her education and graduated high school in 1955. Loretta had worked at a store in Lawler and later worked for over 20 years at the former Hillandale Farms in New Hampton. Loretta remained a very private person throughout her life and loved the time she spent being close to nature on the farm. Her parents preceded her in death; Maurice in 1985 and Alice in 2000.
