Lois Irene Zobel

Lois Irene Zobel, age 89, of Ionia, IA, died Saturday, September 19, 2026, at Hillcrest Homes in Sumner.

Per her wishes she will be cremated with no formal services at this time.  A private family gathering will be held at a late date.

Hugeback – Johnson Funeral Home & Crematory in New Hampton has been entrusted with arrangements.

Lois was born December 12, 1936, daughter of Clark and Mildred (Johnson) Wait, Nashua, IA.  She graduated from Nashua High School in 1954.  On February 23, 1957, she married James Zobel at the Nashua Methodist Church.  To this union three daughters were born.

For many years Lois worked as the assistant manager of the Charles City Kmart.  For the past 47 years she and Jim enjoyed their acreage near Bassett, IA.  When the two of them weren’t doing yard work they would go trout fishing, camping, or explore various states in their car or on motorcycle.

Lois is survived by husband Jim; siblings Sharon (Richard) Pahnisch, Leon (Sherry) Wait, and Linda (Gale) Richards; sister-in-law Beverly (Ron) Hoffman; daughters Teresa (Roger) Zobel-Shaffer and Julie (Cary) Lehman; grandchildren Clarissa (Adam) DeShaw, Megan (Michael) Olson, Caitlin Lehman, Brodie (Kylea) Shaffer, and Cole (Kacie Erwin) Lehman; great-grandchildren Edward DeShaw, Adeline DeShaw, Harper Lehman, Teddy Olson, Max Olson, and Maisie Shaffer.
