Lois Fathauer
October 7, 1924 ~ November 19, 2018
Lois Louise Fathauer passed away peacefully on Monday, November 19, 2018, in Waverly. She was 94.
Lois was born at home on October 7, 1924 in Nashua, Iowa, to Myrtle and Edward Schoenfeld. She received her BA and MA degrees from the University of Iowa and began her teaching career in the Midwest. She moved to Whittier, California in 1954 to teach high school English and history in Anaheim. She then became one of the first women high school administrators in that district, a distinction about which she was very proud.
She married Fred William Fathauer in 1974. The two soon returned to her hometown, Nashua, building a home on the Cedar River. They later relocated to Charles City then back to Nashua.
Lois loved to travel throughout Iowa to attend antique auctions and add to her collection. She always treasured her time with neighbors in every locale. Lois and Bill adored the miniature Schnauzer pups who shared their homes. She was known by family and friends to have a quick sense of humor and always took a serious interest in the events and trends of the day. She particularly loved to share her childhood memories of growing up in Nashua.
Lois was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, as well as her sister, Lucile Lichtenstein. She is survived by her niece, Susanne Louise Buxbaum, of Ukiah, CA.
Lois’ wished for a private graveside service in Nashua. She will be interred next to Bill at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Nashua. In lieu of flowers, Lois wished for contributions to be directed to PAWS Humane Society of Charles City.
