Leone Roberson

Leone D. Roberson age 84 of New Hampton died Thursday morning, December 30, 2010, at Mercy Medical Center in New Hampton.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 3, 2011, at the Jerico Lutheran Church, rural Lawler, with Pastor Daniel Larson officiating. Nadine Schumacher will be the organist accompanying the congregation singing, 'Behold A Host Arrayed In White' and 'I'm But A Stranger Here'. Pastor Daniel Larson will sing, 'How Great Thou Art'.
Interment will be in the church cemetery with John Pose, Alan Weber, Duane Boos, Bryan Sheehy, William Haugen and Robert Roberson as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Harlan & Betty Pose, Jay & Eileen Roberson, Laverne & Mary Nelson, Bruce & Janine Babcock and Paul Johnson.
Friends may greet the family 3:00 - 6:00 p.m. Sunday, January 2, 2011, at Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home in New Hampton. Visitation continues an hour prior to the funeral at the church on Monday.
Leone Denise Roberson was born March 2, 1926, in rural Chickasaw County, IA, the daughter of Theodore and Marie (Anderson) Haugen. She was baptized on March 28, 1926, and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith on March 17, 1940, at the Saude Immanuel Lutheran Church. Leone attended rural country schools in Howard County and in her later life received her G.E.D. On January 29, 1946, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Saude, she was united in marriage to Orville Roberson. The couple farmed in Chickasaw County until 1986 when they moved to New Hampton. Orville died on October 3, 2008, at the age of 87.
Leone had been employed at the former J.C. Penny Store in New Hampton. From 1960 until retiring, Leone also worked at part time at Qually Produce, The Chestnut Tree Gift Shop and Wilshire Jewelry, all in New Hampton.
Survivors include three brothers, John (Cyrilla) Haugen of Waterloo, Karl Haugen of Cedar Falls and Willis (Mary Jo) Haugen of Seattle, WA; two sisters, Joanne (Joe) Sheehy of New Hampton and Nancy (Robert) Jackson of LaPorte City, IA; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Orville; and three brothers, Davis Haugen in 1987, Wallace Haugen at the age of four and Daniel Haugen in infancy.

Just learned of Leone’s death today. My deepest sympathy to all her family. She was such a great lady, always knew you and greeted you with a smile. She will be missed. Barb Havlik
I was sorry to learn of Leone’s death – too late to get to the visitation, and we will be out of town tomorrow. Leone lived across from my mom, Dorothy Barnett, at Homestead for several years. She was always so kind to Mom and to us. She was such a class act, a beautiful person. Please know that we are thinking of you all at this difficult time.
We want to express our deepest sympathy to Leone’s family. Leone will be deeply missed by our family. She was one of the most kind and thoughtful person I have ever known. Leone and Orville both were like one of the family all through my childhood and years later. I will always remember Leone’s scalloped potatoes with fresh cream. May you rest in peace. You will always have a special place in our hearts.

Our sympathy to Leone’s family. Leone has purchased Lutefisk tickets from me for years for our annual dinner at Crane Creek Lutheran Church. We will certainly miss seeing her there.
We want to extend our sympathy to Leone’s family for your loss. She was a class act and always so compassionate and caring. We enjoyed church activities with her as she always had great way of inspiring the group to get anything done whether it was decorating the tree and church for Christmas or the preparation for church dinners or programs. She was always there! Since we moved to AZ, we would get together to have lunch when we go back for a visit to catch up and show her pictures. We thoroughly enjoyed her company and friendship all through the years. Rest in peace, Leone!
