Leonard Scribner

Leonard Scribner age 59 of Nashua, IA passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Thursday, December 15, 2022 at his home. A celebration of life will be held at a later date when his friends can ride for him. Hugeback - Johnson Funeral Home & Crematory - Olson Chapel have been entrusted with arrangements. Leonard was born on Nov. 15, 1963, to Don and Marge (Knight) Scribner in Waverly, and he grew up in Nashua. He received his education at Nashua Community Schools, did some wrestling for the Bulldogs and was a member of the Nashua High School Class of 1982. After graduating, Leonard stayed in Nashua, and throughout his work life, he was a jack-of-all trades. He worked at Sherman’s Nursery in Charles City, then went to work at a hog confinement facility and worked for a number of years in the Maintenance Department at Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City. Leonard had a son, Andrew, from a previous relationship, but he met the love of his life, Sandy Frederick, when they were introduced by mutual friends. The two began dating, fell in love and were married on Aug. 25, 1989. The couple had one daughter, Lisa, and Leonard was a great father, who loved spending time and supporting his daughter. But as good of a dad as he was, he was an even better grandfather. He loved all of his grandkids, and he and 8-year-old Easton had an especially strong bond, doing just about everything together. Leonard loved to go fishing and trapping, and he loved riding his Harley with Sandy. They took several trips to the Black Hills together, and it was always a good day for Leonard when he could drive his Harley, and it’s one reason his celebration of life will be held at a later date so that his friends can ride for him. He had a big personality, and when he flashed that big smile of his, it always brightened everyone’s day. Leonard was also a big dog lover, and he enjoyed every minute he had with his beloved dogs — Tubby, Lucy and Peanut — but the fact is that everyone’s dogs loved Leonard. And, so too, did everybody’s kids. Like we said, he had a big heart and everyone knew it. Leonard’s life was cut short when he developed complications after undergoing heart valve replacement surgery, but his family would like to say a special thanks to St. Croix Hospice for helping bring him home to Nashua before he passed away. He will be missed by his family, his friends and really everyone who was fortunate to run across Leonard, but they know that today he is a far better place, hitting the open road on Heaven’s Harley and keeping an eye on all of us down here. Leonard is survived by his wife of 33 years, Sandy of Nashua; one son, Andrew Scribner of Nebraska; his daughter, Lisa (Doug) Betsinger, of Nashua; his five grandchildren; two brothers, Jim (Mindy) Scribner of Nashua, and Larry (Suzy) Scribner of Janesville; one sister, Kristi (Chris) Lubben of Shell Rock; one step-brother, Dennis (Lisa) Wiggins of Des Moines; two step-sisters, Sandy (Galen) Franzen of Nashua, and Kelly (Dean) Buls of Tripoli; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Don and Marge; his step-mother, Karen Scribner; and his brother, Donnie. (641) 435-4134
