Leona Eichenberger, age 61 of North Liberty, formerly of New Hampton and Fredericksburg, died peacefully in her sleep, surrounded by her family, on Thursday, January 1, 2015, at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 6, 2015, at Holy Family Parish in New Hampton with Rev. Mark Osterhaus celebrating the Mass. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in New Hampton. Friends may greet the family from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday, January 5, 2015 at the Hugeback-Johnson Funeral Home in New Hampton where there will be a 5:00 p.m. Rosary. Further visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the church. Online condolences for Leona's family may be left at hugebackfuneralhome.com. Leona Ida Eichenberger was born on September 1, 1953, in Decorah, Iowa, the daughter of Clarence and Darlene (Elsbernd) Lansing. She attended the South Winneshiek School District in Calmar, Iowa and graduated in 1972. After high school she began working at Sara Lee in New Hampton and continued until its closing. After Sara Lee closed, Leona worked at Lands' End, Trimark and Atek. On February 8, 1992, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in New Hampton, Leona was united in marriage to Darwin Eichenberger. Leona loved bowling in her younger years but always enjoyed spending time with her friends and family the most, especially with her new granddaughter. Leona is survived by her husband Darwin; two daughters, Crystal (Dusty) Noble and Nicole Eichenberger, all of North Liberty; her mother, Darlene Lansing of New Hampton; two brothers, Lonnie Lansing and Lavern (Kathy) Lansing, all of Ft. Atkinson; three sisters; her twin sister, Lois (Charles) Lantow of Nashua, Laura (Israel) Ramirez of Giddings, TX and Louise Monroe of Atalissa, IA; and one granddaughter, Brielle Noble. She was preceded in death by her father, Clarence Lansing, and her brother, Linus Lansing.
