Leo Gerhardt

Leo D. Gerhardt, age 91 of Alta Vista, IA passed away on Tuesday, September 25, 2012 at Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City. Leo Duane Gerhardt was born August 16, 1921 to Louis and Iva "Pearl" (Rorebeck) Gerhardt in Norwich, IA. As a child Duane moved with his family to a farm near Alta Vista. On June 20, 1945 he was united in marriage to Ramona Roethler. In 1948, the couple purchased the Will Gerhardt farm where they would farm until their retirement in 1982. The couple then moved into Alta Vista in 1984 where Duane continued to live until recent years. In 2008 he moved to Colonial Manor in Elma. Duane enjoyed woodworking and carpentry work. He was a member of St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Alta Vista. Duane is survived by one brother, Everett of Vero Beach, FL; three brothers-in-law, Richard Roethler of Kansas City, KS, Joseph Roethler of Alta Vista and Ronald Roethler of Charles City; two sisters-in-law, Virginia Gerhardt of Vero Beach, FL and Florine Necas of Dubuque; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death byhis loving wife, Ramona, his brother, Darol and sister, Lucille. Cemetery: Burial will be in Union Cemetery at Alta Vista. Memorials may be directed to the family. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00pm on Friday, September 28, 2012 at Conway-Markham Funeral Home in Elma, IA with a 5:00pm Rosary and a 7:00 Scriptural Wake Service. Visitation will continue at the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00am, on Saturday, September 29, 2012 at Immaculate Conception Church in Elma, IA with Fr. Steve Garner celebrating.
