Leitha Ross, age 81 of Fredericksburg, Iowa, formerly of Nashua, died Sunday, July 6, 2014, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 9, 2014, at St. John Lutheran Church, NASHUA with Pastor Bill Nielsen presiding. Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, FREDERICKSBURG. Friends may greet the family 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 8, 2014, at the Hugeback-Johnson Funeral Home in Fredericksburg. Visitation continues an hour prior to the service at the church in NASHUA on Wednesday. Leitha Norine Ross was born May 31, 1933, on the family farm in Alpha, IA, the daughter of Marion and Vera (Lickiss) Brandenburg. She attended County School South of Fredericksburg and was a 1951 graduate of the Fredericksburg High School. While she was in high school Leitha loved singing in the High School Chorus. She also met and began dating a young man named John Ross while in high school. On November 13, 1955, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Fredericksburg Leitha was united in marriage to John W. Ross. To this union three children were born, Debra, Richard, and David. The couple lived East of Nashua, near Republic, almost their entire marriage. Leitha was a proud farm wife and also worked at the Chickasaw County Courthouse as Deputy Recorder for 24 years. She was the County Recorder for six years. Upon retirement, Leitha and John moved to Fredericksburg. Leitha had many interests including fishing, playing cards, and baking. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren always took priority. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Survivors include her husband, John; one daughter, Debra (Mike) Stastny of Nashua; two sons, Richard (Jill) Ross of Iowa City and David (Sharon) Ross of Ely, IA; six grandchildren, Jamie Stastny (Dallas Pagel), Jessica Stastny-Hall (Jason Hall), Will Ross, Paul Ross, Katie Ross, and Emily Ross; three great-grandchildren, Regean, Mykah, and Kennedy; four sisters, Virginia Conklin of West Union, Darlene (Lyle) Steege of Fredericksburg, Beverly (Everett) Hyman of Oelwein, and Charlotte Wuttke of New Ulm, MN; one brother, Clifford Brandenburg of Tuscon, AZ; two brothers-in-law, Lyle Laabs of Waverly and Paul Klotz of Cedar Falls. Leitha was preceded in death by four sisters, Mavis Laabs, Marian Briggs, Donna Klotz, and Verla Nieman; one brother, Amos Brandenberg.

She was a servant to the community in her role as recorder, serving the public with the upmost friendliness, honesty and respect. She will be missed.
