LaVerne H. "Butch" Ohm, age 81 formerly of New Hampton, IA passed away on Friday, June 26, 2015 at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo, Iowa. LaVerne Harry was born in rural Lawler, Iowa on November 30, 1933 to Harry and Frances (Zipse) Ohm. He attended rural school in the Jacksonville Township through the eighth grade. On February 26, 1952 he married his childhood sweetheart Jean Roths at St. Joseph's Catholic Church of New Hampton, Iowa. To this union two daughters were born, Diane and Denise. Butch worked many years in the natural gas business, delivering bulk gas to residences and businesses in NE Iowa. He later farmed, which is what he enjoyed the most, while also working for John Deere in Waterloo. After 28 years of service to Deere's he retired in 1994. He continued to work part time as a grounds-keeper at the New Hampton Country Club, where he enjoyed the early morning hours of solitude in the outdoors. Butch grew up enjoying life in the country. He liked country music, westerns, hunting, fishing, and checking the progress of crops in the fields. He was a member of UAW # 838 and Holy Family Parish. He will be remembered by his family as a hard working generous man, who was always true to his word. LaVerne is survived by his wife of more than 63 years, Jean Ohm, of Charles City, IA; children, Diane (Bill) Cochran, of Billings, MT, Denise (Rich) Riley, of Rockford, IA; grandchildren, Denelle (Bruce) Gonnerman, their children Ashton, and Malea, of Denver, IA, Kayleen (Bruce) Tierney, their child Zoey, of Parkersburg, IA, Baylee Riley, of Billings, MT, Chase Riley of Rockford, IA, Carson Riley, of Rockford, IA; sisters, Ann Moorman, of Plainfield, IA, Kay Eischied, of New Hampton, IA; brother David (Doris) Ohm, of Plano, TX; sister-in-law, Caroline Ohm, of De Soto, WI; brother-in-law, Larry Roethler, of New Hampton, IA, and many more loving family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Bill Ohm, Donald Ohm, James Ohm; sisters, Linda Roethler, and Patricia Ohm.
