Laura U. Schulz, age 87, of West Union formerly of Lawler, IA passed away on Sunday, June 16, 2019 at Grandview Healthcare Center in Oelwein, Iowa. There will be a visitation on June 29th from 9:30 - 11:30 at Trinity Lutheran Church in New Hampton, Iowa, located at 223 S Water Ave with a funeral service to follow at 11:30 - Pastor Kevin Frey will be officiating. Burial will follow in the Boyd Cemetery - Boyd, Iowa with lunch to follow at the church. Online condolences may be left at www.conway-markhamfh.com . Memorials may be directed to the family. Born Laura Udyell on August 20, 1931 in Bristow, IA, she was the daughter of Irving, Sr. and Katherine (Mashuga) Young. Laura attended school in Orange Township in Black Hawk County. On January 21, 1950, Laura was united in marriage to Erwin "Erv" Schulz in Preston, MN. The couple made their home in Waterloo for several years before moving to Lawler in 1953 to farm. Together, Laura and Erv raised their five children and farmed side by side until 1986. Laura was an active member of the Boyd Church until it closed and then became an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in New Hampton. Laura enjoyed working as a Home Health Aide in Chickasaw County, working at Hardees, and just helping any one she could when they needed it. She loved to cook for her family and relatives for get together. Laura also cherished singing anywhere she could and to write poems when she had time. She has eight poem books the family loves to go through as some of them are about her family members and additionally people she knew. Those left to cherish Laura's memory include her sons, David (Sandy) Schulz of Durant, and Dick (Randi) Schulz of Ankeny; her daughters, Sherry (Mike) Buttjer of Plainfield, and Becky Schulz of Rochester, MN; one daughter-in-law, Marsha Schulz of Oelwein; nine grandchildren, Vicki (John) Ault, Melissa Gesing, Sarah Costello, Mitch Schulz, Shawn Schulz, Kristin Schulz, Carissa Buttjer, Reece Buttjer and Dalton Schulz; her seven great grandchildren, Braxton, Maxine, Gabriel, Lucy, Amelia, Ruth and Kateri; her brother, Darrell (Connie) Young; sister-in-law, Marilyn Young and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Erwin; son, Roger and brother, Irving, Jr.
