Larry C. Engel, age 62 of Fredericksburg, Iowa, died Monday morning December 8, 2008, at the Muse-Norris Hospice Center in Mason City. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday December 11, 2008 at Holy Family Parish - St. Joseph Center with Msgr. Carl Schmitt, Rev. John Harpel and Deacon Vic DeSloover officiating. Organist will be Ann Bennett accompanied by the Holy Family Resurrection Choir with Mike Winter as cantor. The pall will be placed by Larry's family. Lector for the service will be Terry Bohr and Marlys Sinnwell. Presenting the offertory gifts will be Laurie Bouska, Karla Gossling and Debbie Friedman. Clinton Brannon, John Kramer and Nancy DeSloover will be eucharistic ministers. Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Fredericksburg with full military honors by the Fredericksburg AMVETS. Pallbearers will be Lauren Brannon, Jim Brannon, David Kramer, John Kramer, Daniel Brannon and Ted Steege. Honorary Pallbearers are Peg & Steve Nieman, Carly & Kelly Nieman, Larry & Carol Kuecker and Steve & Marianne Hanson. Friends may call 4 - 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home in Fredericksburg, (563-237-6212) where there will be a 7:30 p.m. Scripture service presided over by Deacon Vic DeSloover. Michelle Orthaus will read 'My First Christmas in Heaven'. Further visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday in New Hampton. The family also requests that anyone wanting to share a story or an experience they had with Larry to write it down and mail or give it to Frances. A book of these memories is going to be made for Jackson Engel in memory of his grandfather. Larry C. Engel was born December 8, 1946 in Waverly, Iowa, the son of Carl and Phyllis (Bruntz) Engel. Larry was raised in Fredericksburg and graduated from Fredericksburg High School in 1965. Larry was inducted into the United States Marine Corps on March 2, 1966 and served honorably for two years attaining the rank of Lance Corporal in the 3d 8” Howitzer Battery, 11th Marines, 1st Marine Division. He was united in marriage to Frances K. Brannon on July 22, 1972 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in New Hampton. The newlyweds moved to Fredericksburg and made this city their home for their entire married lives. To this union two sons were born, Jeffrey and Jamie. In 1980, Larry went to work at Fredericksburg Farmers Cooperative working in the mill and later in the feed department. Larry was a member of the Fredericksburg AMVETS, Lawler American Legion and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed camping and spending time with his family especially his grandson, Jackson. Larry is survived by his wife, Frances; two sons, Jeffery and his wife Jodi of Minot, ND and Jamie of Iowa City; a grandson, Jackson Engel; his mother, Phyllis Engel of Fredericksburg; his sister, Darlys Saunders of Waverly. He was preceded in death by his father, Carl Engel
