Lance Michael Langreck was born February 1, 2007 at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo, IA, the son of Joe and Tina Langreck. Lance spent the first three months and five days of his life in the St. Mary’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in Rochester, MN. He was born with congenital myotonic dystrophy. Although he was limited in physical ability, Lance could sit up, stand with assistance, and was able to take small steps with the use of a gait trainer. Every week, Lance had physical therapy whether it was with Team Rehab in Decorah, IA or in his home with assistance from Keystone AEA. Lance was a very happy child despite his many medical troubles that included many trips to the doctor. His favorite movie was Curious George and he loved watching Wheel of Fortune and Elmo’s World on TV. He loved bubbles, music, being in the water, and playing with his best friend and big brother Luke. Throughout his three years and eleven months and six days of life, Lance touched numerous people and will be deeply missed.
Lance is survived by his parents, Joe and Tina Langreck of Lawler; a brother, Luke Langreck; his grandmother, Beverly Roed of Decorah; his grandfather, Ronald (Mary Jane) Michels of Decorah; three uncles, Richard (Honor) Langreck of Lawler, Bruce (Tina) Michels of Decorah, Daniel Michels of Decorah; five aunts, Eileen (Tom) Carolan of Waucoma, Kathleen (Paul) Gnade of Ft. Atkinson, Shirley Smith of Calmar, Doris Mitchell of Lawler, Tammy Michels of Decorah; and 20 cousins.

Joe, Tina and Luke: I was so saddened to hear of Lance’s death. He was a trooper extraordinaire…from the beginning. You as a family were also extraordinary. Always full of faith and optimism no matter how tough things were or seemed. I am so glad to have known all of you. There is really nothing I can say to ease the pain and the sense of loss. A particular hymn says it best…’Children of the Heavenly Father, safely in his bosom gather…’ And so he is, as are we all. I can not attend Lance’s funeral but I shall hold you in my thoughts. Be kind to yourselves, Genella
Our sympathy goes out to you during this time of sorrow. May you rest with the knowledge that he is now living in heaven with his heavenly father with no limitations. Put your faith in God and rest on family and friends now when you need them the most.
