Visitation continues an hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the church. Kristy was born on March 10, 1967, to Michael "Mickey" and Sherri (Barnett) Blazek in New Hampton, and she grew up on a farm just north of Lawler with her two siblings- Kathleen and Tony. Kristy attended Turkey Valley schools, graduating with her wonderful classmates in 1985. She then attended college for a short time. During that time, she discovered her passion, caring for those in need. Kristy ran an in-home daycare while raising her three daughters: Andrea, Michaela, and Rebecca. Once her daughters were all in school Kristy resumed college and became a Registered Nurse in 2005. She then accepted a position with MercyOne North Iowa at their Behavioral Health Unit where she worked until her passing. Kristy’s career allowed her to help hundreds of individuals in the community over the span of 18 years, and often left a lasting impression on those she worked with. Kristy often talked about and spent time with members of her “Work Family” whom she cared deeply for. Outside of her work life, Kristy’s heart was filled with many family members and friends. Kristy found immense pride in being a mother and was often raving about her three daughters. Kristy was a very hands-on mother and enjoyed making memories with her daughters. Kristy frequently went out of her way making Mayday basket cupcakes for her daughters’ classes, hosting sleepovers, and many other things to bring her daughters and their friend’s joy. Kristy’s biggest joy in life came recently as she gained the title of “Nana.” Kristy flourished in this new role and loved every single second of being a grandma. Kristy’s special memories she had with her daughters were recreated with Lettie and Axel. Kristy was often seen cuddling one, or two, of the babies at any given time and would ensure they received 100 kisses before departures or at bedtime. Kristy enjoyed living a life that was balanced between being a homebody and being a social butterfly. Kristy could spend a day getting lost in a good book or spend the day shopping with her mother or friends. Regardless of how Kristy's day had gone, she always made sure to reach out to her close friends and daughters every night asking about their day and utilized her amazing story telling skills to recap her own day. Anyone who knew Kirsty personally would comment on her kindness. Kirsty went out of her way to make everyone in her life feel heard and often would remember the littlest details that were shared with her, resulting in her building special bonds with most people she met. Unbeknownst to anyone, Kristy was struggling with a terminal illness the entire final year of her life. Kristy often fought through the fatigue to maintain her work, social, and family life to aid in a sense of normalcy. Kristy’s kindness was carried on after her passing as she requested for her lungs to be donated to researchers that are working to find a cure for Interstitial Lung Disease. Sadly, Kristy had the worst form of ISD, Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis. Kristy is survived by her mother, Sherri Blazek of New Hampton; her three daughters, Andrea Hopes of Clear Lake, Michaela Hopes of Clear Lake, and Rebecca Hopes (Philip Cerwinske) of Forest City; Grandchildren, Lettie Cerwinske and Axel Evenson; Sister Kathleen (Kevin) Bonthius of Edina, Minnesota: nieces, Destiny, Emma, Alexandra and Tanya: nephews, Anthony and Liam; many loving cousins, aunts and uncles. For all of us, and so many friends that were like family, our lives will never be the same, we were all so blessed to have had her in our lives. She was preceded in death by her father, Mickey, brother, Tony and many other beloved family members who we know are in heaven happily with her now.
