On November 26, 1960, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Elma, she married the love of her life, Donald Bernard Hackman. To this union two children were born: Connie and Bob. The couple made New Hampton their home. After completion of her high school degree Kathy became employed at Hillandale Farms. Some years later she purchased the Bo-Peep Shop and Clothing Store in New Hampton. She was well known for her children’s fashion talents. Many New Hampton natives loved walking into her beautiful shop with high quality children’s clothing. Kathy loved her store, but after several years sold her business and worked part time at the Manges Jewelry Store. Kathy and Don purchased a cabin in Ventura, Iowa on Clear Lake. They loved fishing and boating together, but having the grandchildren come to stay with them at the cabin was a special joy. Many family memories were made there. Kathy really enjoyed playing cards and board games. She was a collector and had a passion for Beanie Babies. Christmas was her favorite holiday, and she had a vast collection of Santa Figurines, totaling over one thousand. Kathy was a CCD Teacher for many years and participated in the The New Hampton Chamber while owning her business. The couple loved to travel the United States and would go to Las Vegas and Branson regularly, as well as many other destinations. Family members and old acquaintances were never surprised when Don and Kathy called or looked them up on a vacation. Family and friends were very important to them and taking the time to stop and call were normal kindnesses they showed everyone. If someone needed help or an encouraging word, they were there to help. Kathy had battled Dementia for many years and just recently moved into the Cedar Health Nursing Home.
