Katherine M. Langreck age 80 of Lawler, Iowa died Wednesday, February 18, 2009, at the New Hampton Care Center. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10: 30 a.m. Saturday, February 21, 2009, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, Lawler with Rev. Marvin Salz celebrating the Mass. The pall will be placed by her children. Lector for the service will be Deacon Vic De Sloover. Presenting the offertory gifts are Cathy Sabelka, Cindy Ott, Sara Feickert and Roxy Smith. Sarah Feickert will be the eucharist minister. Organist for the service will be Ranae Huinker accompanying vocalist Deb Speltz. Interment will be in the church cemetery with Chris Carolan, Allan Gnade, Mike Langreck, Tim Langreck, Nick Langreck, Keith Langreck, Craig Mitchell, Jordan Mitchell and Jim Mitchell as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Paul Langreck, Luke Langreck, Lance Langreck and Kevin Langreck. Friends may call 3:00 - 8:00 p.m. Friday, February 20, 2009, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Lawler where there will be a 4:00 p.m. Rosary and a 5:00 p.m. Scripture Service. Visitation continues an hour prior to the Mass as the church on Saturday. Katherine was born November 3, 1928, on the De Sloover family farm near Riceville, IA, the daughter of Victor J. and Katherine (Linkenmeyer) De Sloover. She received her education in rural country schools east of Lawler. On July 24, 1951, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Lawler, she married Francis J. Langreck. To this union seven children were born. The couple farmed near Lawler from the time of their marriage until 2007. Francis died on February 16, 2007. Katherine became a resident of the New Hampton Care Center in January of 2008 and suffered a stroke later that year in December. Katherine enjoyed gardening, her flowers, baking, crocheting and was a member of the Lawler V.F.W. Auxiliary. Spending time with her family was the love of Katherine’s life. Survivors include three sons, Richard (Honor) Langreck of Lawler, John Langreck of New Hampton and Joe (Tina) Langreck of Lawler; four daughters, Eileen (Tom) Carolan of Waucoma, Kathleen (Paul) Gnade of Ft. Atkinson, Shirley Smith of Calmar and Doris Mitchell of Lawler; 17 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; one sister, Betty Tillman of Waucoma. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sisters, Verda Langreck and Bernice Langreck; two brothers, Bernard De Sloover and Loyal De Sloover; a son-in-law, Paul Smith.
