Karla Kaye Kelley, age 75 of Fredericksburg, IA died Thursday, May 17, 2018 at Mercy Medical Center in New Hampton.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at Hillcrest Baptist and Brethren Church in Fredericksburg with Rev. Todd Yeaton officiating.
Friends may greet the family at the church from 9:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 16, 2018 prior to the funeral service.
Karla Kaye Kelley was born on August 26, 1942 in New Hampton, IA, the daughter of Milton and Dorothy (Slick) Grummitt. Karla graduated from Fredericksburg High School in 1960. She began working at Little Butch’s restaurant in New Hampton where she worked as a waitress. She then took a position with A&P in New Hampton, followed by employment with Ott & Forsman and Bodensteiner Oil. Karla then started working at Oster Communications in Cedar Falls, staying with the company for 28 years. She then began working as a secretary at the United Methodist Church in New Hampton.
On February 24, 1972 Karla was united in marriage to William Kelley at the Brethren Church in rural Fredericksburg. Shortly after, William adopted her two children, Trudy and Todd.
Teaching Bible school and Sunday school was something Karla really loved. She had a passion for gardening, sewing, quilting, and cooking for her family. She also loved helping raise her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Karla is survived by her husband of 46 years, Bill Kelley of Fredericksburg, IA; daughter, Trudy (Everett Suhr) Fritcher of New Hampton, IA; son, Todd (Lacey) Kelley of Fredericksburg, IA; five grandchildren, Trish (Randy Bartie) Sassmann, Katie (Brent) Olsen, Jacob Fritcher, Isac Kelley, and Maeli Kelley; 11 great-grandchildren, Avery, Isabelle, Lillian, Josephine, Angelina, Aaron, Bradley, Ryan, Anna, Libbi, and Elise; three sisters, Sharon (David) Isenhower of New Hampton, IA, Randa (Randy) Harrison of Maynard, IA, and Brenda (David) Speicher of Fredericksburg, IA; and sister-in-law Janice Grummitt of Allison, IA.
She was preceded in death by her parents; step-father, Martin Griesert; brother, Lurton Grummitt; and niece, Corinne Martin.
Karla will be missed she was a fun loving person a person who loved to spend time with her grand kids and the game cribbage from Brittany kuecker
