Juel Knutson

Juel N. Knutson, age 82 of New Hampton died Tuesday morning, November 8, 2011, at Mercy Medical Center in New Hampton.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 12, 2011, at Holy Family Parish – St. Mary’s Center, New Hampton with Rev. Mark Osterhaus celebrating the Mass. The pall will be placed on the casket by his wife and children. Lector for the service will be John Knutson. Presenting the offertory gifts will be Jenny Gebel and Jay Bergeson. Music for the service will be provided by Ann Bennett as organist and Mike Carlin as vocalist. Hymn selections are “Here I Am Lord”, “Amazing Grace”, “Peace Is Flowing Like A River” and “On Eagles Wings”. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, New Hampton with Andy Hageman, Brian Hageman, Adam Kirchhoff, Dan Knutson, Mitchell Knutson and Joel Gebel serving as pallbearers.
Friends may greet the family 3:00 - 8:00 p.m. Friday, November 11, 2011, at the Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home in New Hampton, where there will be a 4:00 p.m. rosary and a 6:00 p.m. scripture service. Visitation continues 8:30 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Juel Norman Knutson was born July 20, 1929, on the Knutson family farm near Jerico in rural Chickasaw County, IA, the son of John and Alice (Vikdal) Knutson. He received his education in rural country schools and at the New Hampton High School. On November 5, 1953, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Lawler, he married Marian Tieskotter. To this union six children were born. For the first few years following his marriage, Juel farmed with his father southwest of Jerico. He then began working at the former B & P Silo Company in New Hampton where he remained until retiring. When he wasn’t working, Juel enjoyed the outdoors fishing, hunting, gardening and his raspberry patch. He was always willing to tell his stories to his children and especially loved telling them to his grandchildren. Juel will be remembered by his family for his love of antique toys, Allis-Chalmers tractors and always being there for his family.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Marian; two sons, John (Cindy) Knutson of Sumner, Norman (Marcia) Knutson of New Hampton; four daughters, Alice (Tom) Rasing of New Hampton, Laura (Doug) Alitz of Mason City, Laurie Gebel of New Hampton, Ann (Gary) Johnson of Lawler; grandchildren, Melissa, Ashley, Samantha and Christina Knutson, Eli and Thaddeus Johnson, Joel and Jenny Gebel, Mitchell and Daniel Knutson;two great-grandchildren, Ethan and Addison Johnson; two sisters, Edna Anderson of New Hampton, Laura Bublitz of Grafton, IA.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Orvin Knutson and Karsten Knutson.
