Born July 20, 1941 in Charles City, to Louis and Rose (Frascht) Logan, her life was marked by steadfast commitment to her family, her church, and her community, and she will be remembered with deep affection by all who knew her.
Judy graduated from high school and carried the values of hard work, responsibility, and kindness throughout her life. She married Joseph Merfeld at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City on April 1, 1967, and together they built a life centered on family, faith, farming, and mutual care. She devoted herself to making sure her children did well in school and was always present with encouragement, guidance, and love. Her home was a place of warmth, stability, and welcome, and she took great pride in caring for those around her.
In addition to her devotion to her family, Judy worked for eight years at Salsbury in Charles City. She approached her work with diligence and reliability, and she was respected for the steady manner in which she carried out her responsibilities. For 45 years, she served as secretary and bookkeeper at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Nashua, where her long years of service reflected both her faith and her commitment to the church community. She volunteered for many activities within the church and served on various committees for Nashua and the Nashua-Plainfield School District. Her willingness to help wherever she was needed made her a trusted and valued presence in many circles. She also served on the Floyd County Extension Council for 12 years, giving of her time and talents to support her community in meaningful ways.
Judy found joy in the simple and important moments of life. She loved attending her grandchildren’s activities and was happiest when she could be present to support and encourage them. She enjoyed spending several days each year at the Iowa State Fair, taking in the sights, sounds, and traditions that brought her delight. For 47 years, she participated in a local card club, where she enjoyed the fellowship and friendship that came with those gatherings. She also loved to feed her guests with excellent home cooking, especially at Christmas, when her table reflected both her generosity and her gift for making others feel cared for and welcome.
Those who knew Judy will remember her as a woman of deep faith, quiet strength, and unwavering devotion to others. She lived her life in service, offering her time, her talents, and her heart without hesitation. Her loving nature touched her family, her church, and her community in lasting ways. She will be remembered for the grace with which she carried her many responsibilities and for the kindness she extended so freely to others.
Judy Ann Merfeld leaves behind a legacy that will continue in the lives of those she loved and served. Her example of selflessness, faith, and dedication will remain an inspiration to her family and all who were blessed to know her. Though her presence will be deeply missed, her memory will be cherished with gratitude and love.
