Joseph A. Annett age 69 of Nashua, Iowa died Saturday, February 6, 2016, at Hospice of North Iowa in Mason City. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 13, 2016, at the Hugeback-Johnson Funeral Home - Olson Chapel in Nashua, with Rev. Gary Mayer, of St. Michael's Catholic Church presiding. Interment will be in St. Boniface Cemetery, Ionia with military rites conducted by the Nashua V.F.W. Post. Friends may greet the family 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. Friday, February 12, 2016, at the Hugeback-Johnson Funeral Home - Olson Chapel in Nashua. Visitation continues an hour prior to the service at the funeral home. 641-435-4134 If so desired, in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family. They will designate the charity at a later date. Joseph A. Annett was born March 30, 1946, in New Hampton, Iowa, the son of Victor and Mary (Eichenberger) Annett. He grew up on a farm in Bassett, IA until 1971 when he moved to Nashua, IA. Joe served his country during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the United States Army as a helicopter crew chief. He was very proud of his service and was proud to show it, wearing his Veteran hat whenever he went out. Joe worked in the construction industry since 1964 and genuinely enjoyed teaching people his carpenter trade secrets. Joe had a passion for spending time outside and would do so whenever he could. His favorite outdoor activities were hunting and fishing. He had a favorite hobby of woodworking and made beautiful cabinets, shelves and various other items. Most recently he enjoyed putting various puzzles together, many in record time, according to the aides at the Good Shepherd Nursing Home. Joe also enjoyed watching TV and going to the casino. The largest smiles and most treasured moments were saved for his daughter and his grandchildren. He was a proud father and grandfather and enjoyed watching them grow. He will be remembered by all who knew him as a sweet, kind and gentle man who would do anything for them. Joe is survived by his daughter, Trisha (Chris) Meilinger and grandchildren Sophia and Jacob Meilinger of Chicago,IL; Trisha's sister, Melissa (Keith) VanTil, of Fishkill,NY; Trisha's mother, Lois Kerfoot, of Wilkes-Barre, PA; sisters, Victoria Putney of Charles City, IA and Virginia Kleen of New Hampton, IA; half-sister, Allaire (Warren) George of Waterloo, IA; many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents; three brothers-in-law, Alfred Putney, Duvane Blake and Richard Kleen; his best School/Army friend, Duane Kuehn.
