John A. Sweitzer, age 52, of Mason City, IA formerly of New Hampton, passed away Saturday, December 14, 2019 with his family by his side at MercyOne North Iowa in Mason City. A Memorial Service has been planned for 11:00 AM on Wednesday, December 18, 2019 at Conway-Markham Funeral Home in New Hampton with Pastor Kevin Frey officiating. There will be a visitation for friends to greet the family one hour prior to the memorial service on Wednesday. Burial will be held at a later date. Online condolences may be left at www.conway-markhamfh.com. Memorials may be directed to the family. John Alan was born November 6, 1967, the son of Gary and June (Hovick) Sweitzer in New Hampton. He attended and graduated from New Hampton High School in 1986. After completing his education in New Hampton, John made his home in Mason City where he attended and graduated from NIACC. After college he began working at Sears. Later he worked for Crescent Electric in sales. John also enjoyed bar tending in Mason City where he enjoyed the customers and made a lot of friends. John was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church in New Hampton. He enjoyed sports, especially cheering for the Hawkeyes and Dallas Cowboys football. He played darts and enjoyed helping get an annual tournament together. John will be dearly missed by his sister, Carol (David) Hauser of New Hampton; his nephews, Hayden and Gatlin; his aunts, Janet (Larry) Tantow of Rochester, MN, Julie (Bud) DeWees of Huntington Beach, CA, Bev (Mike) Oleson of Ft. Dodge, IA, Genny Sweitzer of New Hampton and Mary Zook of Souix City, IA; his uncle, Ray (Audrey) Sweitzer of Cincinnati, OH along with numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gary and June; and his brother Dennis.
