John Lee Hammond age 82 of North Liberty, IA, formerly of Nashua died Friday, November 28, 2014, at the Windmill Manor Care Facility in Coralville, IA. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday December 2, 2014, at the United Methodist Church, Nashua with Pastor Alfredo Agtarap presiding. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends may greet the family an hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are with Hugeback-Johnson Funeral Home - Olson Chapel, in Nashua. John Lee Hammond was born April 20, 1932, in Nashua, IA, the son of Gale and Alta (Rottink) Hammond. He received his education from the Nashua Community School District. Following high school, he worked for ten years at the Rath Packing Co. in Waterloo while also farming for several years near Nashua. He later began working for the Lehigh Cement Company. He loved driving truck for them until his disability forced his retirement in 1984. John was known for being able to repair anything and everything! He enjoyed working on mechanical items and also spent a lot of time working on improving his home. John loved to take his grandchildren for lawn-mower rides and many evenings you would see him giving his beloved dogs car rides around the county. Watching the Hawkeyes and time with family were always very important to John. Survivors include his wife, Twilla of North Liberty, IA; daughters, Connie Hammond, Cathy (Carlos) Freeman and Carol (Joe) Santana all of Tampa, FL; stepchildren, Steven Klindt of Hiawatha, IA, Kevin (Kristal) Klindt of Cedar Rapids, Christine Hansen of Mason City and Michelle (Shawn) Selch of North Liberty; one brother, Dean (Diane) Hammond of Nashua; six grandchildren, Matthew (Lori) Hill, Tarah Santana all of Tampa, FL, Luke Hansen of Mason City, Paul (Tami) Hansen of Altonna, Ian Selch and Katelynn Selch all of North Liberty; four great-grandchildren, Landon, Liam, Allie and Alexander. one sister-in-law, Diann (Don) King of Albert Lea, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Roger Hammond; and one sister, Gardis Hammond.
