John James Denner, age 74 of Waterloo, formerly of Lawler, Iowa died Monday evening, May 31, 2010, at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo. Private family graveside services will be held at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Cemetery in Lawler. Public visitation will be held 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Thursday June 3, 2010, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Lawler. Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home, New Hampton is in charge of arrangements. John James Denner was born October 20, 1935, in Lawler, Iowa the son of Henry W. and Nellie H. (Busta) Denner. He received his education in Lawler and began farming south of Lawler for 25 years. On April 4, 1959, at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in St. Lucas, he married Germaine Foreman. To this union five children were born. The couple later divorced. John also attended Hawkeye Technical College receiving an associate degree in agriculture and began working for the Iowa State College research farm near Boone, IA. After ten years he retired and lived in Waterloo. John enjoyed dancing, playing cards and watching Waterloo Bucks baseball. Survivors include his very special friend, Norma Strom of Cedar Falls; three sons, Tim (Karen) Denner of Lawler, Terry (Teri) Denner of Fredericksburg and David (Linda) Denner of New Hampton; two daughters, Jan (Dave) Meirick of Phoenix, AZ and Denise (Mike) Webster of New Hampton; 14 grandchildren, Jackie Meirick, Jeff Meirick, Kelli Meirick, Billy Meirick, Julie (Darren) Westendorf, Scott Denner, Brandon Denner, Eric Denner, Ryan Denner, Zach Denner, Hannah Denner, Michael Denner, Raelyn Webster and Nolan Webster; three great grandchildren, Braxten, Cayson and Maddox Westendorf; one brother, Tom (Norma) Denner of Kansas City, MO; two sisters, Betty (Art) Winter of Kansas City, MO and Mary Jane (Jim) Zieser of Marion, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents and two granddaughters, Jenna Lynn Denner and Christian Erin Meirick.
