A Memorial Service for Joanne J. (Springmier) Roberts will be held at 3:00 p.m. on September 4, 2021, at Twin Ponds Nature Center. Burial after memorial service provided by Chapin Michael Reicherts from Cowboys for Christ.
Joanne J. (Springmier) Roberts, a 27-year Wrangell, AK resident, died May 13, 2021, at the Southeast Regional Health Consortium's Mt. Edgecumbe Medical Center. She was 74 and died of pulmonary disease.
"Wrangell was her style," her family said. Roberts moved to Alaska with the U.S. Army in 1976 and later when she grew tired of big cities, left Fairbanks and moved to Wrangell, where she tended bar, worked aboard commercial fishing boats, and hunted. "She lived a colorful life." "Joanne was married five times, outliving every single husband but one,"
Joanne Roberts was born Aug. 9, 1946, in New Hampton, Iowa, to Russell and Adala (Kalvig). Springmier. She served 10 years in the Army and was a member of the Elks and American Legion Auxiliary.`
Joanne was educated at the Jacksonville country school K-6 when the country school was closed Jo transferred to the public school system going to junior high and graduating from the New Hampton high school in 1964. Later Jo attended Hamilton Business college getting a degree in Office Administration.
Joanne is survived by two sons, James Pietan, of Juneau AK and Michael Pietan, from Waterloo Iowa; daughter, Julie Wetzell, Springfield, Oregon; mother, Adala Springmier (Kalvig) of New Hampton, IA; sisters, Jan Springmier-Lemke of Douglasville GA and Judy Eichenberger of New Hampton; brother, Lynn (Karen) Springmier of New Hampton; She is also survived by her grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was proceeded in death by her father, Russell Springmier; her grandparents, Guy, and Mildred Springmier and Alfred and Milda Kalvig
