Joan Alice Smith, age 76 of New Hampton, died Monday evening, January 25, 2010, at the New Hampton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in New Hampton. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday February 2, 2010, at Trinity Lutheran Church in New Hampton with Pastor Kevin Frey officiating. The pall will be placed by Joan’s four children. Crossbearers will be Chianne Eischeid and Dalton Eischeid. Interment will be in the New Hampton City Cemetery with Joan’s grandsons, Robert Finnegan, Garrett Testroet, Lance Testroet, Logan Smith, Taylor Smith and her nephews, Chris Ostland and Brian Loes as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Joan’s granddaughters, Lori Eischeid, Karrey Smith, Danielle Testroet, MacKenzie Smith and Courtney Ball. Friends may call from 4 - 7 p.m. Monday at the Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home in New Hampton. Further visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Joan Alice Smith was born January 4, 1934, in Charles City, Iowa the daughter of Glen and Irene (Ellis) Springer. She received her education in Charles City. On June 6, 1951, Joan was united in marriage to Gilbert Frank Smith of Nashua. To this union four children were born, three daughters and one son. Joan worked seventeen years, for Hillandale Farms of New Hampton, before retiring. She then joined her husband Frank in over-the-road trucking, until his retirement. Frank died in May of 1992 at the age of 59. Joan enjoyed baking and was a good cook. She loved doing things for others but the time she was able to spend with her family was the most special of all. Joan is survived by her son, Doug (Linda) Smith of Cresco; three daughters, Linda (Tom) Finnegan of Tucson, AZ, Terry (Gary) Ball of Harrison, TN and Peg (Dan) Testroet of New Hampton; ten grandchildren, Robert (Roxanne) Finnegan, Garrett Testroet, Lance Testroet, Logan Smith, Taylor Smith, Lori (Tony) Eischeid, Karrey Smith, Danielle Testroet, MacKenzie Smith and Courtney Ball; five great-grandchildren, Dalton Eischeid, Chianne Eischeid, Autumn Delacruz, Kyle Delacruz and Damian Valenzuela; one brother, Glen (Nancy) Springer of Lansing. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Frank in 1992; two sisters, Betty Rath and Norma Kobliska.
