Jimmy Dale Herzberg age 60 of New Hampton, IA, died Saturday, October 17, 2020, at his home. Private family services will be held at a later date. Arrangements are entrusted with Hugeback-Johnson Funeral Home & Crematory in New Hampton. If so desired memorials may be sent to Deana at 513 N. Broadway New Hampton, IA 50659, Jimmy Dale Herzberg was born November 20, 1959, in Waterloo, IA, the son of Dale and Helen (Strom) Herzberg. He grew up in Waterloo, and as a kid, he loved hanging out, riding bikes and fishing with his neighborhood friends. Jimmy always looked forward to his family’s fishing trips. He attended public schools in Waterloo, including Waterloo East, and from an early age, Jimmy showed an interest in anything mechanical. He had a knack for being able to fix almost any problem. After high school, Jimmy first worked at the John Deere foundry, but he spent much of his working life employed by the city of Cedar Falls, where he was a mechanic at the city garage. Jimmy lived in Jesup for years and was a part of a group that called themselves the “Hood Buddies.” The guys like to go fishing and ride their ATV’s and UTV’s together. Jimmy was especially proud of the Polaris Ranger he owned as well as his bass fishing boat. On a Thursday night in 2013 — Nov. 21, to be exact — Jimmy made the best decision of his life. He went on a date with Deana Dunn. The two quickly became a couple, and a little more than six years later — on Feb. 2, 2020, the two were married. Jimmy was diagnosed with Stage IV cancer earlier this year, and as he battled the disease, he lost one of his two daughters, Karina Pritchet, to cancer, too. He put up a heck of a fight, and he was grateful that he could spend time not only with Deana but his daughter, Kristin Treichel, and his family and friends. Sixty is too young to say goodbye, but Deana, his daughter, his family and his friends are comforted by the fact that Jimmy is no longer in pain and at peace after his short but valiant fight against cancer. Survivors include his wife, Deana Herzberg of New Hampton; one daughter, Kristin (Shawn) Treichel of Indiana; step-son, Tyler Kenney of Dallas City, IL; sister, Daleann Christiansen of Waterloo; mother-in-law, Linda Dunn of St. David, IL; special people in his life, John Koch of Waterloo, Daniel Koch of Waterloo, Heather Koch of Belle Plaine, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Karina Pritchet.
