Jerry Edwin Peters peacefully parted with us at age 70 on June 29th, 2020, in his home. The son of the late Edwin Peters and Clara Freerksen was born at 11:55 pm on February 22nd, 1950 at St. Joseph’s Mercy Hospital in Mason City, Iowa.
Jerry graduated from Mason City High School in 1968. In 1980 he opened a business in his residence of Floyd, Iowa. After retiring from Peter’s Garage in 2005, he went on to operate vehicles for Bruening Rock Products Inc. Jerry had a love for riding motorcycles that he shared with many of his friends and family. Operating Peter’s Garage with his son and riding his bike were two of his most treasured pastimes.
Memories with Jerry will be cherished by all that loved him. There was never a dull moment when he entered a room; there was never an encounter with Jerry where a laugh wasn’t shared. He was very involved in his son and grandchildren's lives as well as the friends he made throughout his lifetime. He was a very caring and genuine person and it never went unnoticed.
Jerry is survived by his best friend; Shirley Slowinski, son; Joseph Peters, daughter-in-law; Brooke Peters, two grandchildren; Jadelyn and Quentin Peters, a sister; Jean Nelson, and brother-in-law; Jerry Nelson. He is lived on by nieces, nephews, extended family, and countless friends. The memories shared with Jerry will be remembered for a lifetime.
By Jerry’s request, there will be no funeral. However, there will be a celebration of life at a later date.
So sorry to hear about Jerry. I always enjoyed chatting with him at work when he stopped in the office. He will be missed. My prayers and sympathy to the family.
My sincere condolences to all Jerry’s immediate family, friends, co-workers and that whole Floyd gang over there. A real icon of Floyd,Iowa… I got the pleasure to do a few trips with ol’ Peters – Springfield Mile – then we’d party and whoop it up – and have a story to tell – through wind and rain, riding into the night – goin’ for all you’re worth – it was some of the best times I ever had on a trip with that guy along – he lived a great, exciting life for sure ! -Respectfully, Rick Nootnagel (Lil’ Noot Jr. he called me…)

Never a dull moment when we would have an encounter with “Blue”. One of the first times was up at Apple River, tubing what a fun time! Jerry was always very passionate about local politics and not afraid to voice it, a real asset to the community, he will be missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.
It is so impossible to think he is gone. Through out the years we have gone through a lot. Good times and sad times we were there for each other. Rest in peace, Blue.
So sad to hear of Jerry passing. He was a true friend to many !! I worked with him at White Farm and babysat Joe on a few occasions. I will never forget the time we went to Toma for a weekend rally at Fort McCoy taking his Jeep through trails after a hard rain got stuck and Lee Gaston giving directions on how to get us out wheels spinning!! Resulted in getting covered with MUD!!! So much fun!!! Jerry and Lee also worked several times on my vehicle making sure everything was a ok before they let me leave with it! Jerry will be truly missed by many me being one of them ! Rest In Peace “Big Blue” ♥️
Great guy Always enjoyed stopping by Jerry’s shop for a story and a laugh.
Condolences to Shirley, and Jerry’s family! Always had a great time visiting with Jerry whenever, wherever it happened. Thank you Jerry for your service to your community! I remember riding with him in a group headed west on the Avenue. Looked to my left and there was Jerry with a camera taking pictures of all of us as he passed by. Next time we all got together he was handing out the pictures and telling us how weird it was to look through the camera doing 70 mph!!!! Always fun to be had!
RIP Blue…..we will miss the conversations, laughs, and seeing your big smile.
Our deepest sympathy to everyone who loved him. Jerry was a wonderful friend and we will always cherish our memories of him. Rod and Jewel
Sympathy to you all. Gone too soon! May he Rest in Peace………until we meet again!
He always loved all those silver maples that he planted himself at the house so I thought a tree planted in loving memory of him would be appropriate.
